Bugs in June

What can I expect to encounter in mid June as far as mosquitoes, black flies, and other friendly bugs? Cruising to Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Sitka.

Hard to say, but last year the bugs weren't bad at all in Juneau. They are never really bad unless the wind isn't blowing and you're in the woods or on the beach and the no-see-ums can be pretty nasty.

Mid June is mosquito season, but the Southeast bugs are nothing compared to the interior. The no-see-ums get nasty in July and August. I never leave home without some OFF, and I swear I'm going to start bringing a fly swatter. The last two summers we've had huge (biting) horse flies in June.

Holy Cow, I never would have thought of bugs in Alaska. Thanks for the OFF info. Bugs seem to LOVE my hubby. They seem to ignore me, thank goodness. :) We'll be leaving May 15. Do you think bugs won't be as much of an issue then? Thanks!

I agree- I've never encountered anything much on the Inside Passage compared to interior Alaska. Going in May shouldn't be a problem.
