39august Posted April 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2005 Is the casino open after leaving the ports while traveling to the next island? I was under the impression that the casino was not open at all during sailing between the various islands. Someone on a recent cruise told me that after about an hour from departing, the casino was opened, much like Caribbiean cruises.
wwinfl91 Posted April 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2005 At least on our Island Princess cruise in Fall 2004 the casino stayed closed the whole 5 days we were in the Islands. It was open the 5 days coming over and the 5 days going back but closed while we were going from island to island. Have a great next cruise. Serious Cruisers Posted April 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2005 If its a repositioning cruise (ending/starting in Canada/Mexico) the casino will be open one hour after sailing from each port. Did the repo last year and was surprised to gamble every night except the over night in Maui.!!!
wwinfl91 Posted April 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 21, 2005 That could be the difference from the Island Princess cruise since it left from LA and went back to LA after a very brief stop in Mexico to satisfy US law. Have a great next cruise.
JackofHearts Posted April 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2005 We just got off the Legend a couple of weeks ago. First five nights around the islands then off to Escanada. It was OPEN the nights we sailed between islands. It was closed obviously the night we stayed over in Maui.
WeBeCruisin' Posted April 21, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2005 I've not been on a Hawaiian cruise, but I think the key is whether or not you visit a "foreign" port. Some ships make a very short stop at Fanning Island or Ensenada, Mexico, just to be able to keep their casino open between islands in Hawaii. The Aloha ship and others which only visit Hawaiian islands can't have the casino or the retail shops open. Or at least that's what it seems like I've heard.
