What is with this week and cruises??

Recommended Posts

I just got back from the Enchantment of the Seas and heard about the Dawn and the Grandeur (sp?). Well I had no idea...was too busy in the casino :D but also we had one of our propellers break down as we were approaching Jamaica and not only did we arrive there late but we had to not go to the Grand Cayman. The next cruise still left today but I have no idea what they're gonna do if it's not fixed.

I hope that's it since things normally happen in 3's!

ahhhh, forgot about those alleged bed bugs (am still convinced NOT twas b.bugs, but more than likely were jelly fish stings). alas, I was not there...... the bed bugs made me think about how quick media are to judge IF it seems like a big news story (a.k.a. Wendy's vs TheFinger)...(heard they finally arrested that lady!)......

Just hope this is the end of a bad run on cruising publicity! and I still say Some Folks Just Shouldn't Leave Home:D

Emjake's, lastnight on channel 7 news in Medfield they showed pics of the bedbugs in the couples sheets. They were definitely bug bites and not jelly fish stings. My wife and I laid in bed itching all night until we fell asleep. Not because we have bedbugs but just the thought of that couple having to sleep with those creatures. YUCK.

Speaking of Wendys. I love Wendy's and I love their chili. Ever since that story broke I've said "Gee, I want to go to Wendy's and get some finger chili. I haven't found my finger in the chili yet. I feel left out. From what I understand Wendy's has lost alot of business in Northern Cal from this incident.

I'm not sticking up for fast food joints, but Wendy's got scammed by someone, and it's ruining their business. Reminds me of when the McKenzie brothers wanted to put a little mouse in a beer can and have it grow big so they could sue the beer company ... or something like that.

That was a Carnival ship that the TV station had the pictures of the bed bugs from.

Doesn't help to stop you from itching though, sorry.

So there is still no evidence of bed bugs actually being on the Jewel of the Seas???

I agree with EmJake's Bubbie. I think I read somewhere that the people were in Costa Maya. I was on the Explorer cruise that docked in Costa Maya on April 13. My husband and I went snorkeling and I felt like something was stinging inside the bra of my swimsuit. Nothing appeared that night, but the next night I started breaking out in a "rash". First thing I did was research "sea lice" on the internet. Boy did I look just like the picture on http://www.fau.edu/safe/sea-lice.html.

The biggest mistake I made was rinsing off and letting my suit air dry - and then wearing it all afternoon lying on the beach in Cozumel. Seems that the little suckers (no pun intended) can lie in wait in your suit to sting you again. I have about 150 little red bumps that itched like h---. Sealice is a misnomer as they are actualy the larval form of thimble jellyfish.

I have been taking benadryl regularly and using hydrocortisone cream occasionally as recommended on the website. And it seems to be clearing up in about the one week's time indicated on the website as well.

This is our 8th cruise in 6 years and it is the first time I have gotten anything like this. Late March through August is the prime time for "sea lice", especially along the souther Atlantic coastline as well as Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands. Best recommendation is getting out the clothing as soon as possible and detergent washing and heat-drying the swimsuit.
