Son's friend will be 18 by sailing, can her go into Club 02?

We are sailing in November and my son's friend will have turned 18 by then. They are still both into video games and would assume they'd like to hang out in Club 02. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?? Will they let him hang out??

We had a similar situation a while back when my son was 14 and we asked if he could hang out in Club 02 and the counselor said it was fine.

I think it depends on how crowded the ship is with kids. It's Thanksgiving week so I'd assume it'll have a lot of kids.

Thanks!

What I have heard is that if they are still in high school, have them bring their high school ids and there is a good chance they may be allowed in. I will know in 3 weeks- I will have 3 18 year olds still all seniors in high school and we are hoping they can participate.

I see people mention school ID's, but to be honest ... the high schools where we are from don't give out school ID's.

Are you sure about this? How do they check out books from the library? I teach at a high school in Indiana and I pass out the school pictures every year with the id card also. Most photographers automatically include a photo id with school pictures.

If there truly is no photo id, ask for a transcript with current grades from your guidance office. Those will also have a picture on them.

I am absolutely positive about this. I have no idea how the kids check out books from the library as my kids (nor any of their many friends check out books from the library). School pictures are passed out during homeroom at our schools.

Heck when I went to high school, we just gave our name when we checked books out at the library ... furthermore, when I go to the public library (which one of our high schools has attached to it, as well as a stat care), I only have to use a library card (which has no picture on it whatsoever). The only time my kids have ever gotten a school ID was when they were public schooled at home ... but now that they go to brick and mortar schools, that isn't something they've ever been given.

And I can assure you there are no picture on transcripts either (we've recently gotten our sons transcripts from the school, not for the purpose of an ID).

I was 19 the first time I cruised and my sister was 17. I hung out in Club O2 with her all the time. We didn't do a lot of the scheduled events, but at night when it was dancing/video games I went almost every night. I don't think they're too strict about it

the last carnival cruise i went on there was an 18 year old that had 2 brothers that were 15 and 17 and she was not allowed in the club O2, so in my opinon no there is no way he could go in it. if they let some in they will have to let them all in

What about their report card? Bring that with you... The only correct answer is...its up to the person in charge the week you go... Some have said yes, others have said no..

I have cruised for about 10 years now on Spring Break with a minimum of 8 kids (usually all the cousins) and sometimes they were allowed to move and sometimes they weren't...

I agree that no student ID is unusual- they are required for lots of things outside of school. But since your school doesn't have them- a note from the school or a report card or transcript- anything which demonstrates that he is currently enrolled in high school. As notes above- it seems to be a ship by ship and sail by sail decision. I hope so as my son loves the O2 club. But we have a plan b- we are bringing 2 friends with him just in case.

He won't be in high school. He'd have graduated in June.

We'll just check when we get on board. I will as the counselor.

Thanks for your responses, I'm feeling better hearing that some have.

I will be really surprised if he will be allowed in the teen club. I say this as there have been many posts on CC that say no 18 year olds unless in high school.

I believe the reason is that there is too much of a difference in maturity level (I know not always) between a 15 year old and an 18 year old. The club starts at age 15, and I'm not so sure that if I had a 15 year old daughter, I'd want 18 year olds (boys) hanging out with her.

As far as video games, I know there is an arcade, and yes, I do know there is a charge for the games. I don't know if there are charges for the ones in the club though.

I think there are now meet n greets for the 18-20 year olds. I know that's not what you were asking, but I am suggesting that if he can't go to the club, there might be other opportunities for him to meet people if your son is going to be in the club. I hope you all get to enjoy the cruise.

No worries!! If he can't go to the club, they probably won't go at all. My son won't go if his buddy can't come with him. Last October we did this same exact trip and the boys never went to the kids club at all. My husband & I said "apparently we are just too much darned fun" hehe. We don't mind them hanging around us!!

It's all good!!

We have been wondering the same thing as our son turns 18 just a week before our cruise at the end of this month on the Spirit. We are hoping they will allow him to participate in the teen club and are planning to bring his high school ID to show to the counselors. If the answer is no I'm sure he will still have fun, especially now that he can go to the casino with his Dad. But he has always enjoyed the teen club on our other cruises and will be disappointed if he is barred from participating.

On our last cruise there were 18 year olds trying to get into the club O2. They check your sail and sign card at the door, if your not on the list, no entry, no exceptions. You can hang out with them away from the club, but no entry into the club or participation in organized activities. They know the kids real ages bc of the ship manifest, so lying on the club registration won't get you in either.

I would be more surprised at the fact he would WANT to go to Club O2. My 16 year old won't even go. Yes, it is for 15-17 year olds, but really...still a childish idea. Unless you really need to play a video game, I would imagine an 18 year old rather would hang out by the pool...or bar for that matter! :o

Well- they can't hang out at the bar. Or rather they can and drink coke. And I would far rather have my kid want to hang out there than want to hang out in a bar or casino.

How do you find out if there is a meet and greet for 18-20 year olds? My niece will turn 18 before our cruise in July and want to find somewhere for her to meet some kids her own age. thanks

It is listed in the Fun Times you can get that first day. But from my experience with those I wouldn't expect much. I took one of my sons to where they were supposed to be happening and there was just one other person there. They are announced but nothing more than a meeting place is provided. So far this is an idea which has not matured- they need to do something more than say- 18-20 year olds should meet at x spot, which as of last June was all they were doing.

Of course, as a parent I would rather my kid hang out there too...but at 18...I am just saying no 18 year old I know of would want to hang out in a kids club on a cruise ship.

Well, like I said earlier, last October they never even went to the club.

Just a question I thought I'd toss out there, in case they figured there would be more kids on this trip and wanted to check it out. Not a big deal!!

Thanks everyone

Well- my son loved it. And he is neither immature nor unintelligent. But still in high school. I think that once they are out of high school it may be a different story. We must know different kids.

I never said anyone was immature or unintelligent...18 year olds are very different! Just stated I personally don't know of any that would be interested in that.

And to be honest, on our past cruise, the 15-17 year old club had 4 kids in it. Three of the four kids were in a relationship together. And made that clear all over the ship.
