Has anybody booked excursions direct with the russian excursion companies and have you had any problems disembarking to catch the tours?

Many people do this and nowadays there are no reports of problems disembarking. If you go to the Northern Europe & Baltics board here

Welcome to Cruise Critic..Check out the European boards for more info...However we had NO problems using TJ Travel for our 2 day private tour in St Petersburg including getting off the ship at the time we had arranged with our private guide & driver (8:30am)..Doing a private tour was the best decision we could have made and it ended up being much more than we ever expected ...real VIP service and seeing everything we could possibly see.... a trip of a life time...Enjoy !!!!
