cruzeluver Posted March 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2012 Our plane lands in Newark at 11:00AM. We will take the free shuttle from the airport to the Fairfield Inn - Newark where we are staying one night pre-cruise. Since we will have so much time to kill the day we arrive we want to go into the city for a few hours and walk around Time Square and maybe Rockefeller Center. What is the best way to go about this? Thanks.
njhorseman Posted March 5, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2012 Take the hotel shuttle back to EWR and from there take the AirTrain from the airport to the Newark Airport railroad station that serves NJ Transit and Amtrak. Take a NJ Transit train from there to New York Penn Station. (Note do not get off the NJ transit train at Newark Penn Station, the first stop after the Newark Airport station, by mistake. New York Penn Station is the last stop, and it will take about 30 minutes to get there once you board the NJ Transit train.) The combined one way fare for the AirTrain and NJ Transit is $12.50 per person ($8.75 if you are a senior citizen age 62 or above). If the weather is good and you enjoy walking I recommend walking from NY Penn Station to Times Square...it's a bit less than a half mile.
travelgip Posted March 6, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2012 Newark, NJ has a train station - so you can take a cab to the train station, then hop a train to NYC :D

138east Posted March 7, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2012 It's a personal choice - time, money or stress. A cab will be $20-25 to Newark Penn Station, but the train fare is $5/pp. The train fare from Newark Airport Station is $12.50/pp but is more time consuming with multiple transfers. You can try the airport route going in and do the train/cab on the way back.
