Why don't they ban cigars completely? Yes, I know cigarettes smell, but they are not quite as obnoxious as cigars and cigar smokers always seem to spew their smoke towards the non-smokers. On the Insignia, the smokers certainly made their side of Horizons, not a pleasant spot to sit even in the non-smoking portion. Mind you a strong smelling perfume or after shave is just as obnoxious for those who suffer from allergies.

Yes, and then the complainers can find something else to complain about.

Meaning...????

Meaning that after the cigarette wars are resolved, the Perfume and Cologne anarchists will come out of the woodwork.

Yes, I know that they all suffer from agonizing physical trauma at the barest whiff of scent, and I keep telling myself that it isn't a control issue....

but I firmly believe that Eau Savage is what separates us from the apes

So, please....enlighten me as to the smoking policy on Oceania. We are a family of 4 (including 2 teenage children who are well-mannered, well-travelled :) ) reserved on the Crystal Serenity for a Baltic/Russia cruise in the summer of 2013. All the pieces seem to fit on Crystal, the Nobu inspired Asian cusine, formal evening dress, wonderful service, great itinerary....and then I have found out their liberal smoking policy. I cannot and will not inhabit a room that a previous smoker has occupied. If Crystal would guarantee me 2 connecting never been "smoked in" staterooms, we might be a forever loyal cruiser. Please help me find a luxury cruise line that has restrictive smoking policies, elegant surroundings, fine dining, wonderful service, imaginative itineraries and a welcoming environment to families who are grooming our young teenage adults to the appreciate fine travel. Thank you!

Q: Can I smoke onboard?

A: For the safety and security of all guests and staff onboard, Designated Smoking Areas are available on Deck 9, the forward starboard corner of the Pool Deck, and Deck 10, in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food and beverage areas. Smoking is expressly forbidden in all Staterooms and Suites, on verandas, or in any areas of the ship other than officially Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in a stateroom or suite represents a serious fire and safety hazard to all guests and staff. Guests chosing to disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call and may also be subject to additional fees that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck or accomodation areas. All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino and all other areas of the ship. Cigar and Pipe smoking is only permitted on the forward starboard corner of the Pool Deck.

Oceania is good re: restrictive smoking policy but they fall short by allowing smoking in the Horizons venue. You might want to avoid Horizons. The view is grand but the odor is just plain awful...sad but true.

HOWEVER, your staterooms and other public areas (except for forward starboard pool deck) will be smoke-free. Recommend getting more midship/aft rooms as the smoke does drift down the stairwells to the forward rooms on decks 8 and 7.

Issue 2: April 2012 just arrived with all the new journeys..it says "the comfort of smoke free environments virtually the entirety of our ships"...just wanted to stress that these are NEW brochures;)

Perhaps you have not sailed on the Marina yet, but on the Oceania Class ships, the smoking area in Horizons is completely glass enclosed, making it virtually a "private" smoking room.

For those of us who love the R ships and the longer cruises maybe they can enclose an area in horizons to accommodate the few and make the rest happy too. ;)

LOL!! You are so right, jimandstan! With so very many things to choose from when one spends time in the company of all those "other people", there will always be something to cry about while seeing the world in the lap of luxury. [i dont smoke but really dont care if you do.]

DEB

I think the "VIRTUALLY" smoke free must mean the 2 places still exist ...it is marketing

It was that word that threw me off or maybe I was hoping for completely non smoking :D:D
