redfish1955 Posted March 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 15, 2012 Been doing some research on glacier/dog sledding helicopter tours in Juneau and came across Era, which has been in business since 1948. Some great testimonials on this Web site: http://www.flightseeingtours.com/content/index_eng.html Just wondering if anybody out there has used this company and their experience? Thanks!:)
zenjenn Posted March 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2012 I haven't used them, but I did a TON of research and the overwhelming majority seems to think that ERA is the best. We opted against the tour.. there is just no economical choice for helicoptering in Alaska, for sure, and we have 5 people. But, if we did, I probably would have either gone with Era, or Northstar Trekking (since they pair helicopters with glacier hikes.)
JPesq Posted March 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2012 Maybe you already know this, but ERA has a 2 for 1 coupon in the toursaver for the Juneau helicopter ride. Monday is the blackout day.

JPesq Posted March 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2012 Here: http://www.toursaver.com/ It's $99 plus shipping and you can return after 14 days if you don't like it. The website lists the available deals. If your cruise is late in the season, you can also find pre-owned books on amazon or ebay, but make sure the coupon you want hasn't been used. It doesn't cover the dog sled one though if you are wanting to do that one.
AkSusan Posted March 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted March 15, 2012 I'm a Southcentral Alaska local and used them for our 4 Glacier Walkabout when we we're in Juneau. They've been around all parts of the State for years. Susan in Anchorage :)

I have flown with three companies out of Juneau and disagree with the claim that the "majority (who??) seems to think ERA is the best" Again having actually flown glacier helicopter landings 7 times. Any of the companies do an excellent job.
Budget Queen Posted March 16, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 16, 2012 Thanks for the coupon tip! Where do you get the Toursaver?:D Coupon acceptance is very limited, I believe it is 2 per day. I'm using coupons split over two days for my plans this year. So you may want to verify what is still available before you purchase, and if you can book, do so.
