Emergency Diversion of Itinerary for Infinity

About one hour ago the captain came on the public address system to say that we were going to make an unexpected diversion to a nearby Peruvian coastal port because of a medical emergency. As we headed closer to the coast, the ship began listing quite a bit from side to side as they had apparently turned off the stabilizers and dramatically slowed down our forward speed. Some people were concerned because of the recent Costa Condordia disaster and there was a period of about 15 minutes where there was a bit of drama. Finally, the Cruise Director came on the PA to explain why the ship was listing and this seemed to calm some nerves.

When we reached an area about 2 miles from shore the crew readied one of the ship's tenders to prepare to evacuate 2 people (one passenger and one crew member) who apparently were injured somehow earlier today. We watched the crew load these unfortunate folks into the awaiting tender boat and then they lowered it to the water and it sailed off for the port.

We are currently awaiting the return of the tender while we float off shore. A little too much drama for today.

We are fine and thoughts and prayers are with the two people who were injured and evacuated.
