KarenCL Posted March 27, 2012 #76 Share Posted March 27, 2012 How is the MUTS? Any suggestions on going to the outdoor movies ie.. blanket, jackets, go early to get a lounge??? Any suggestions you have would be great...Thanks Our friend was on Sapphire two weeks before we were and he is at MUTS almost every night. On the Mexican cruise, he found it to be quite cool in the evenings and, by chance, had thrown a travel blanket in his suitcase at the last minute. Even with the blankets provided by Princess, he said he was cold and was glad to have the extra blanket. He also had advised us to get there early to get a good lounge, as they filled up quickly. The provided popcorn, and the Trident Grill and Pizza station were open late on deck.

BaileyandBella Posted March 27, 2012 #79 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Thank you! We just took a Disney cruise and I hated how short the buffet hours were. I am glad that the Sapphire's are the same as they were 2 years ago when we cruised her.
Ella2 Posted March 27, 2012 #80 Share Posted March 27, 2012 We docked in SF this morning around 7:00am and received clearance to leave the ship at 7:36am, so if you're down at deck 4 by 7:30, you should have a problem getting off the ship by 8:15. AWESOME, thank you so much for the information! And enjoy your day in San Francisco. :)

Rare macbest Posted March 27, 2012 #86 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Been loving your updates daily as we will be on the ship next week. See that you are in SF today. Can you tell me which way they pulled in? I.e. is the rear of the ship inland or out to the bay? Reason I ask is that we are in an aft suite next week and we want to know if we should do dinner on the balcony or not. Thanks again flourpot for your posts! The nose of the ship is heading toward the city and the tail is out toward the water. The bay bridge is on the port side and the golden gate bridge is on the starboard (you can't see it, however, from where we are docked at pier 39). To see the ship coming in under the golden gate, you need to be on your balcony no later than 5:30am. You'll see it again leaving around 10:00pm. flourpot Posted March 27, 2012 Author #88 Share Posted March 27, 2012 We took (and are still on) the Alcatraz tour. The ferry ride to and from the pier is about 10 minutes. When you first arrive at Alcatraz, there is a park ranger to tell you about the history of the prison. Then, you walk up to the main prison (equivalent to 13 stories) and begin the audio tour. We finished early with the tour and headed back to the ship for lunch. My mom and me at the Alcatraz sign. One of the cells in the prison. We then came back down to meet the ferry and are now on the bus on the way to Sausalito. While on the ship, I took a few pictures of the buffet. Princess Patches Posted March 27, 2012 #92 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Thanks to the OP for this lively and fun report on the Sapphire. We are going on this trip on the May 5th sailing so I am really having fun following along on your trip. All the details you have provided have been very helpful. Love the photos too. Keep posting! We saw the Sapphire when it was anchored in Santa Barbara Harbor on Sunday. I was tempted to sneak on one of the tenders back to the ship. Sorry you got rained out in our fair city, but I am glad you made it to State Street anyway.

Pamster Posted March 27, 2012 #95 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Thanks for the updates. It is really cool to see the menus especially - we're there on Saturday so it's very interesting to see what the options will be. Do you know what any of the specials in the Asian restaurant are? brickgirl Posted March 27, 2012 #96 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Since you're taking such wonderful pictures, if you go to Crooners, could you take a picture of the bartenders? Please say hi to Alexandar from Bonnie and Dave from the November cruise to Hawaii. Thanks! He was awesome. He worked in the casino then and he served us all the time. ilovemylucy Posted March 27, 2012 #97 Share Posted March 27, 2012 We are planning to do Alcatraz on our own. How far is the ferry to Alcatraz from where the ship docks? flourpot Posted March 27, 2012 Author #99 Share Posted March 27, 2012 Thanks for the updates. It is really cool to see the menus especially - we're there on Saturday so it's very interesting to see what the options will be. Do you know what any of the specials in the Asian restaurant are? The Pacific Moon's special is a stirfry with thin rice noodles, scallops, shrimp, and veggies in a sweet soy sauce. It's one of my favorite things to eat on the ship. The Santa Fe dining room's special is chicken or beef fajitas. I'm not sure about the other 2 dining rooms...I haven't eaten in them. I heard something about osso bucco and prime rib, but don't quote me on that.
flourpot Posted March 27, 2012 Author #100 Share Posted March 27, 2012 We are planning to do Alcatraz on our own. How far is the ferry to Alcatraz from where the ship docks? Love all your pictures of the ship and menus! Thanks for all the information!!! We sail on Saturday!!! If do decide to do Alcatraz on your own, I would suggest buying your tickets ASAP. As of this morning, tickets are sold out until Thursday (48 hours out). The Alcatraz pier is very close to pier 35 (where we dock). Just go out to the street and turn left. It's about 1/2 a block away. To the right is Fishermen's Wharf at pier 39 where you can see seals doing their thing and eat fresh dungeness crab.
