Scandavia/Russia--which ports have shuttles?

Recommended Posts

Just booked Scandavia/Russia on the Princess Emerald for May 12th. Does anyone know which ports have shuttles:

Oslo

Aarhus

Warnemunde

Tallinn

Helsinki

Stockholm

Thanks!

Hi Deb, and welcome to Cruise Critics Baltic boards. as you just booked this wonderful cruise, I assume you will be spending a lot more time over here. Hopefully we can help you in any way possible.

As for your question, I didn't do the first two ports, but in Warnemunde, you dock right in town so no shuttle is needed. In Tallinn, you are just a short walk from the old city (3-4 blocks) so I really do not think there is any sort of shuttle. I have heard that some ships supply a shuttle to get you to the top of the city, as the walk is on a very slight incline, but it really isn't necessary and there is a wonderful walking tour of Tallinn, that helps you every step of the way.

In Helsinki, some cruise lines do supply a shuttle to Market Square. That is the sort of main point where you want to be as most of the things to do are off of this part of the city. If yours doesn't there is a public bus that stops fairly close to the ship's pier.

In Stockholm, once again, you are docked in the city and I have never heard of a shuttle here. Now watch, some one will say they had one, but for the most part, you can walk or take public transportation.

I assume you are leaving form Copenhagen, just another marvelous city.

If you ahve never been to the Baltics, you are in for a real treat. here are a few pixs of our time there to help get you a bit excited

In Copenhagen, one of the nicest sections is the Nyhavn section. Try and do one of the Canal Boat tours from here. Just a great thing to do

In Warnemunde, many people either go to Berlin, Rostock or several other places they can get to by train. Here is a pix of a very picturesque area of Rostock

Tallinn is just a most unexpected jewel in this cruise. Here is the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which you will see as part of the walking tour

Of course you will be doing St Petersburg. So much to see and so little time to do it all in. here is a pix from Peterhoff looking out towards the Sea of Finland

IN Helsinki, as I said, most things happen off of Market Square. Here is a pix of the Lutheran cathedral in Senate square, just a short walk from market Square

In Stockholm one of the real joys is wandering around Gamla Stan with is narrow old world cobblestone streets, some teeming with people and a block or two away, with nary a person

Hope this helps some

Cheers

You mention a slight incline up to the top in Tallin. How slight? Could I be pushed up to the top in a wheelchair without giving my husband a heart attack (although coming down could give me one!) I quite expect to be bounced around even in the lower town. Thanks.

We saw a few trying to do this..it looked very hard due to the incline and uneven cobblestone streets...

As you can see from the great pixs that Ultima put up, there is an incline but the worst part is the sidewalks are very narrow and if you are in a wheelchair and need to be pushed, on that cobblestone street, it could be a problem.

As some one else inquired, maybe you could take a taxi to the top and sort of wheel down, it would be a lot easier, but again it will be on a cobblestone street.

Cheers

Here in Oslo you don't need a shuttle!
