OBC, kids in another room, CCL really needs to rethink this.

Let me start by saying 2 things, 1) this is for OBC from price drops and 2) It may seem I am rambling but I hope you get the jest of it:eek: I am so glad I checked into this now. I booked 3 rooms, 2 interior (16 & 21..grandkids), 2nd interior (adult kids) and myself, DH and GD (9) in balcony. I shall only deal with interior with GK and balcony. So here goes...months after I booked (ES) some big sales started happening and each interior has 510.00 OBC and balcony 645.00. Now I thought since grandkids are linked to our acct all the OBC would be mingled (starting out with over 1K on acct) NO. OBC stays with room (fine but still thought since linked it would all be together). Now my grandkids would each have 250.00 OBC to spend...NO. Here is how it works...each would get half of OBC and it would be used FIRST and then if they used it all since they are linked with me (and a minor must be although he does not have to have charging privileges) the money would start coming off of my acct. Can not move or transfer OBC from price drop. I told my PVP I wasn't leaving that money for them to blow (DH and I will do that), soooo 100.00 limit was put on 16 years olds and the other 410.00 is on the 21 year olds. (21 will go down to casino and take some out...I will go put it back on our acct).

I just find this to be stupid:eek: I paid for the rooms, the OBC is mine (in my mind anyway) and it should be mingled with our acct (since linked).

What if I had a 14 and 15 year old in that room, do they think I would give them 510.00 to spend on the ship...NO. Please don't misunderstand they get coke cards (21 year old buys some beers) money for arcade and few extras but please 510.

OK, so that's what I think...thoughts:eek::eek: I will be adding cash at the beginging also so I know there is enough money, I just don't agree with the way this is done. I think if you are linking accounts all OBC from those rooms should be in one pot.

OBC can be used to pay tips and shore excursions as well. If push came to shove, if there was something you wanted to buy on ship and wanted to use their OBC to pay for it, just have them use their S&S card to pay for the item (obviously not alcohol if they are under 21 though). That way, no money gets "lost".

OBC are by cabin and not who paid - anyone can pay whether or not they have cruised before and getting deals etc. Just take them with you and use up the OBC off their S&S card and as far as the 21 year old goes I think you have the right to tell them to be at a certain place at a certain time to buy you your DOD - they owe you at least that much I would think. it is not a big deal in the scheme of things you just have to play the game.

Same problem on the last cruise. I paid for the cabin as a solo. Asked a friend to go with me for free and I even paid his port taxes. I had used a FCC to book with. Carnival split the OBC so half was on my friends S&S card. I paid for the FCC but got half the OBC. What a stupid system.

I guess this answers my question, I am taking my 15yo grandaughter and our cabin has $140 in OBC so I guess $70 will go to her which is fine since I was going to put a certain amount on her card in cash that she could use on the ship.

Carnival wouldn't have to worry about that because they wouldn't permit a room to have minors only (on paper). I think the solution you came up with makes the most sense (pull the money out through the casino). You racked up loads of great OBC. Enjoy your cruise!

Im totally with you on not giving kids or teens a bunch of OBC to blow, but basically it is not up to Carnival to manage your finances for you. Putting a limit on each kid/teen card is a great idea. From there, Im sure you can figure it all out. Enjoy the credits and have a great time!

Just FYI, you are allowed to change the OBC for one cabin. I am not sure about multiple cabins. I went with a friend and the OBC was mine from FCC. We went down to guest services and they transferred it with no problem.

Another option is to have one of the adult kids and the 21 year old go to the casino and get cash advances on the S&S cards. They can then just give you the cash instead of spending it in the casino.

The whole OBC, kids in different cabins and adding cash to accounts made my head hurt a couple weeks ago on the Magic! It ended up fine but was so difficult to figure out. The kids all put cash on their accounts and we said that amount of cash was their limit. We had prepaid their gratuities. However....there was OBC from price drops and a weird $11 pp OBC because of fee/taxes change (not that I'm complaining about that!!). Anyway...they use the OBC FIRST, then the cash then the credit. So, they didn't start using the kids cash until all our OBC had been spent ($400). Basically it made the tv screen completely confusing and essentially wrong but if you went to Guest Services and asked for individual print outs it was OK. But at the end of the cruise our kids technically had cash left but really didn't because they had spent the money. We figured it out...but man it was such a buzz kill :D Dumb system.

I booked two outside rooms early saver. First price drop is for past guest, so in order to get the price drop for all five of us, I moved my wife to the other cabin on paper. I'm told by my pvp this can be changed back once we get on ship, but I'm not sure it even matters. Either way, we have an adult in both rooms (on paper), so I'm hoping the above wont be an issue for us..

In response to a couple of postings:

I paid the cruise off a little early (not much), but booking ES there have been a number of price drops after final payment that racked-up the OBC. And as far as having any money left...won't happen:) I just think the OBC should be mingled when accounts are linked.

Two minors (13 and over) can be in their own cabin if they are next door or within a few doors across the hall (have done this many times when kids where younger). Last year we had 14 and 16 year olds across the hall from us in their own cabin. Must be traveling with parent/grandparent/guardian:)

Definitely understand the frustration, but at least there is a work-around with putting limits on S&S cards, w/d money in the casino, or you can get a check at the end.

However, just realize that people link reservations for different reasons. You linked them because you have family/grandchildren traveling with you and staying in different cabins, and it sounds like you paid for it all. In our case, we travel with friends and pay for our cabins individually but link our reservations so we can sit together at dinner. I definitely would NOT want our OBC going in one pot. Ha ha! :D

Enjoy that great amount of OBC and have a great cruise!

Carnival would not have to manage my finances if they would mingle the money or allow me to transfer it to my acct (since it is my money that paid for it, so my OBC). But I know rules are rules, and we will take care of it thru the casino. Thanks, I will enjoy the cruise I know:D:D:D

Hello OP,

No need to handle it at the Casino. Simply go to the Guest Relation Desk on day 2 (because OBC is usually posted by then). There is usually a simple form to fill out to transfer OBC between family cabins, and then the Accountant takes care of it.

Hope this helps.

I will check into this, but I was told by more than one person (all with same answer) that OBC from price drop stays with cabin, can not transfer it:confused:

In a few places on the ship they have Carnival ATMs... you can check your portfolio... take money off your card for ports..... change larger bills in for small ones.... pay down your SnS card.... so if someone has your OBC... just take their SnS card... and take out you OBC.... Easy!!!

We had over $700 for an OBC... so we just used the money for on shore purchases.
