Falmouth to Negril-worth it?

We are going to Falmouth on the Freedom soon and are stumped about what to do while we are in port. There is an excursion that goes to Negril, which we have heard is very pretty. It is a long bus ride though and we will be in Negril for about three hours. Is it worth it to take the long bus ride (I am hoping it will be a good way to see the island) or should we consider visiting Ocho Rios or Montego Bay instead? We do not want to climb DRF and are looking for alternatives. Any suggestions? Thanks! :)

I would say no. We've stayed in Negril many times and live it but the ride is just too long. The beach is undoubtedly beautiful but Doctor's Cave in MoBay would do the trick.

Part of what we love about Negril is the nightlife on the beach and you wouldn't get a chance to experience any of that.

Now...do I recommend a land vacation to Negril? Hell yes. Already have one booked for next year.

Thank you, that feedback is very helpful. I appreciate the information which really just confirmed my suspicions that the bus ride was just too long. Off to MoBay we go.....which suits me just fine. Thanks again....really appreciate it. :D

and it's not just the long bus ride but the roads...oh my. I'd rather ride in a taxi in Mexico than ride the bus to Negril. Scary...but you do see lots of the island and Jamaica is by far the prettiest island IMHO.

I agree with mattp420. We stayed at the Sandals in MoBay last November and took an excursion to Negril. It was one of the highlights of our trip. However, it was a long trip from Montego Bay. Also, I agree that the sunset was important to the whole experience.
