We were quite happy with our obstructed balcony. We were in 5178, behind the 5th lifeboat on the port side - #10. We could see fine straight out and could even see a little bit straight down, between the 4th and 5th lifeboat.

 

For the price, I would definitely book one again.

 

 

We'll be in cabin 5178 in 81 days! :) This is our first time with an obstructed balcony (our last cruise on the Legend we had an extended aft balcony, which was amazing). I was wondering what the view would be like, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!! Do you happen to have any pictures?

I posted the following a while back, but never got a response. Let's try again:

 

One question--on Dream there was a Bar-B-que(almost like a cook-out) on sea days out on the Lanai deck. I know they don't have the Lanai deck on Legend. Is there a a BBQ on Legend, or any other special lunch on sea days?

 

No Bar B Q that I am aware of. We were on Legend last June and will be back on in 18 days

There are 2 obstructed view cabins that have 60 foot balconies (a reg balcony is 20 feet). U have to book way in advance to get them, but it is worth it. We had one that cost us $40 each more than an inside cabin. We had 2 lounge chairs and 2 reg chairs with a couple of tables. The balconies are not very wide but you have great views. 5236 is on the port side not sure of the other number.

I think your numbers may be a bit off--regular balconies aren't 20 feet long. I wish! :D

You are probably right; I was going by the fact that the reg balcony was a third of the 60 footer. I never measured them. How wide is a regular balcony? we usually book insiders,

The most frequent complaint I read about the Legend is concerning the food in the MDR. It's usually described as hit or miss. If that is the case, what are the menu items in the MDR that are a "hit?"

 

What about room service? Any recommendations?

 

I'm not a food snob, but I'm pretty close. I've been on two cruises on the Legend and I thought the food in the MDR was very good both times. The vegetarian Indian entree is wonderful and my favorite dessert is the bitter n blanc.

 

If I didn't see anything on the dessert menu that I liked, I would order a banana split off the kiddie menu.

 

Oh and try the steakhouse one night. It's so worth the surcharge.

I've never measured either. :D But, I know they aren't 20 feet! I think they're probably about half that. I have one of the bowling alley balconies booked for our Legend cruise next year and I think I read it's 30 feet long (it runs along side a storage area for the stewards). We're balcony people, so can't wait for the longer balcony. We usually book extended for the extra depth, but this one is extended and longer, so it'll be great. We had an aft wrap on the Splendor and that was amazing. :p

This thread is making me so anxious for my cruise on the Legend, and I have to wait until November 2013!! I am hoping it will have the 2.0 upgrades by then (supposedly will be done in 2013 but haven't seen a date yet) I am booked in Vista Suite 7347.. I cannot wait to get on that balcony!!! :-)

I think the food on the Fantasy class ships was better than what I had on the Legend, but since I don't cruise for the meals I am ok with that, hence the next cruise on the Legend. The Legend does serve a better "tea" on sea days. a little more of an elegant setting. Food on the Lido was better on the Lido of the Legend than on the our Fantasy class too. But one thing I love about Carnival, if you don't like something, they will brink you something in a flash to replace what you didn't like.:)

On our last Legend cruise, we did have one of those "bowling alley" balconies, it ran the length of 3 cabins' width, about 36 feet long. The cabin backs up to the room where the steward's supplies were, including the ice machine. We never heard the ice machine. What we did hear, through the metal of the ship was the booming from Medusa's lounge. We just moved into the center of the bed away from the metal and the "heavy metal" went away. On the other side of the stewards supply room was the elevator, and again we never heard a sound from them either.

 

This next cruise is a French Door Interior-I need my light, but figure I will skip the heat of sitting on a balcony in early September.:p

I haven't been on the Legend since the new smoking regulations. I know I can't smoke in my cabin, I don't have a balcony, but besides two bars at night that are open to smokers, and the Lido deck-where can you go during the day besides out side on the Lido for a smoke? Anywhere?

We have cabin 5236 booked for a back to back... 12 days in Europe and then 15 days transatlantic. Cant wait!!

There are areas in the casino where you can smoke. I'm neither a player nor a smoker so I don't know if you have to gamble to smoke. There must be good ventilation because sensitive non-smokers walked through frequently without concern. Also Satchmo's bar.

Sailing on the Legend in 38 days!

 

Wondering if I should expect the weather in ports to be very humid and hot?

Also... Have an aft balcony booked. Some have commented that there is no air movement on aft balconies. Wondering if I would be wise to bring a battery operated fan for the balcony?

 

Last question.... Anyone have experience with tendering off the ship in Belize? We don't have a CCL excursion booked but hope to get off the ship on earlliest tender. Is this unrealistic?

We're going in August. I can tell you what we are doing and maybe you'll see something that interests you.

 

Since it's your honeymoon, if youre a beach person you may want to look into Nachi Cocom for Cozumel. It's not a carnival excursion. It's an all inclusive beach club that only allows 100 people in a day. If you book by today it's $49 per person. After today $55. Included in the price is use of the pool, beach, jacuzzi, food and drinks. There are also activities available for an additional cost (massages, parasailing, snorkeling, wave runners, etc.)

Grand Cayman we're doing a stingray city sandbar and snorkel tour booked independently. Some of our group is going to 7 mile beach.

Roatan/Mahogany Bay we're just going to relax on the free beach there. Some of our group is doing a zip line tour with Clip and Zip tours.

Belize we are doing cave tubing with VIV tours.

The tender boats are many and they're large - 200+ but the round trip is long. It seems like a long wait especially if there are passengers who have to empty their bags of fruit - no produce may be taken on shore. It could be nearly an hour from your arrival at the theater until you step on the dock.

I think the weather will be very hot and humid. I live in Central FL and I know that it is already hot and humid here and will be until mid-October. I would guess that the Caribbean will be that way too, although a sea breeze helps.

I live in Tampa, just came in from lunch. Its 94 degrees right now, seems kinda dry too, which is wierd, since it rained all last week.

 

It will be HOT...July and August is very hot and humid!!
