Bonsai Sushi - Carnival's New Sushi Restaurant

Bonsai Sushi is being given prime real estate on a cruise ship. That comes with a price.

So is that like paying for a balcony instead of an interior cabin

I still don't get why people see added choices, even if they are for fee, as a negative:confused: Sushi fans will happily pay for the good stuff.

But it will still be the same low grade sashimi they are using

 

Is the Sushi on NCL as good as landbased?

I dont really eat much raw fish ,I love the california rolls but I can tell you every ship we have been on that has sushi smells terrible.I was taught fresh fish doesnt really smell and the fish onboard really smells foul to me

I couldn't tell you the quality without trying it....the quality of the free stuff on CCL is about as low as you can get away with though. Mall stall sushi.

 

The sushi bar on NCL is very good. Last time it was $15 fee, but all you could eat. Each roll prepared in front of you, custom if you like. I can easily eat 6 or 7 rolls at a sitting, so it was fantasic for me. Nice sashimi, variety of Nigiri. The quality of the fish was very good, similar to a good (not top notch, but good) land based big city sushi spot.

 

Only downside was DW was done after two rolls and got progressivly more annoyed as I ordered roll, after roll, after roll....:D

I havnt been impressed by any free ship sushi (6 different cruiselines) But have found it tolerable for snacks

When we walked thru the POA sushi bar the Maguro was darker red than what Ive been seeing for free. We would have tried it but it just changed for all you can eat to Alacarte so I was boycotting:DI look forward to trying it on the Epic

I do know what you mean about ordering more rolls Ive been know to be called a seal when I do all you can eat places:o

I would prefer to hear from people who have actually tried it instead of speculation and rumor.

 

Should start hearing in about a month. :)

Thats fair....... Im hoping it will be like the MDR steak compared to the Steakhouse steak.

I dont mind going to the steakhouse and pay for a prime steak but I wouldnt pay extra for the steak in the MDR

 

BTW can anyone tell I love SUSHI:D:D

What some people don't seem to get is the free food is still free. What Carnival is adding is choice. Choice, that in the case of the Punchliner Brunch (included) is reducing lines on Lido. You don't have to pay for anything.

But Carnival is cutting back on the quality of the free food.

That is your opinion. I was pleased to see that chateaubriand is back to being made from tenderloin. The Lido hamburgers are being replaced with gourmet celebrity chef burgers. The deli is still excellent. etc. etc. etc.

The cutbacks that I have seen just in the MDR the last 4 years is flat iron steak instead of New York strip steak, a much smaller lobster tail, a much filet mingon, and cut back on the shrimp cocktail. I am sure I can think of more.

I think our opinions are the same. The free stuff is never good, but edable....I have no problem paying for good sushi.

have him explain why the chateaubriand was even switched in the first place. i can only assume it was restored after complaints, or worse, food just being sent back to the kitchen.

 

that dish should have NEVER been served with a shoulder!

I get it. Just that if they find that adding pay stuff works all new things will be pay for.

 

Slippery slope as they say.

 

But Stu, all of the new stuff is pay for except lunch in the Cuccina and Guy's burgers. wouldn't it be wonderful if they made it all free and after a year we wouldn't worry anymore. Still be a Carnival Corp but no CCL. Or they could raise the cruise fare so everybody that wants to go to greener grass can justify it.

Free sushi hours extended

I've enjoyed all of the free Asian themed food items that Carnival has added to their ships. I probably wouldn't pay 6.00 for a sushi roll when there are so many other free options on board.

 

I really do hope that they keep the free sushi as well. I really enjoyed it as an app to our late seating dinner.

I doubt the free sushi is in any danger. If/when on any given ship it is moved to Lido, the hours are extended. Also an attraction that may get more people to eat supper there. Brilliant!

 

I'm pretty sure I won't spend a dime in a pay sushi place, but then, about the only thing that interested me at a free sushi station was the ginger. Love ginger. and olives - if there were any olives.

 

Obviously Carnival thinks the demand is there, or they wouldn't take the plunge.
