jan15 Posted May 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Just booked a cruise that does not include Glacier Bay. It is not to late to change since the cruise is not until 2006. Currently booked on Carnival Spirit and looking to change to Island Princess now that pricing is out. Will I regret missing Glacier Bay if I stayed with Carnival. MichTraveler Posted May 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Glacier Bay was the highlight of my Alaska cruises. But Carnival is filling its ships, so the alternatives must be appealing to plenty of passengers. If you are having doubts, now is the time to correct it. naplesam Posted May 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2005 I too would recommend Glacier Bay.
wwaggone Posted May 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Change cruise to get Glacier Bay. The National Park Service only allows a small number of ships into Glacier Bay, otherwise all ships would go. If you can still change, do it:D .
CruiseIsGood Posted May 1, 2005 #5 Share Posted May 1, 2005 Carnival goes to College Fjord, which is also pretty spectacular, with 16 glaciers including the Columbia, a big one. There are six in Glacier Bay. I believe the ships get closer in Glacier Bay. I'm leaving for my third Carnival Spirit Alaska trip in 10 days, going to Glacier Bay this time instead of College Fjord. They have one GB sailing in May and two in September. I love the ship and the reasonably priced balcony cabins. I love having a balcony in Alaska. :)
rnjoel Posted May 2, 2005 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2005 On the Island Princess last year (2004) we did both College Fjord and Glacier Bay. I highly recommend both if you can!!! Happy Sailings!
zachnlucy Posted May 2, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 2, 2005 We've booked the Sun Princess for this August, and it does both Glacier Bay and College Fjords. That's why we booked it.
Texasbob Posted May 2, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 2, 2005 is pretty awesome. You'll get the glacier viewing experience either way. I'd look at the comparing the rest of the cruise as well before making any changes.
Budget Queen Posted May 2, 2005 #9 Share Posted May 2, 2005 If you aren't familiar with and certain of Alaska touring choices, I would have a booking that can be canceled with a low or no fee. If you stay with these boards your knowledge will expand!!! And your choices may change, 2006 is a LONG way off. Look at many factors, ports, time in ports, glacier, route, price. With a one way- consider adding days- well worth it. :)

AK*Angel Posted May 2, 2005 #11 Share Posted May 2, 2005 Does your itinerary include Tracy Arm Fjords? This is a great alternative to Glacier Bay!
jan15 Posted May 2, 2005 Author #12 Share Posted May 2, 2005 The intinerary with Carnival Spirit does not include Tracy Arm Fjords. It includes Prince William Sound and College Fjord. We ended up having out TA cancel our booking with Carnival and booking us with Island Princess Southbound for next June. I'm sure Carnival does a wonderful cruise but we felt like we would regret not seeing Glacier Bay. Actually, I was quite surprised to find out that the pricing was not much different from Carnival and Princess. Thank you all for your input - it really did help.
