Rossore is about one-half km closer. That said, there is a city bus from Centrale to the Field of Miracles.

If you get off at Rossore, just follow the students with a backpack-out of the station and down the street. The University is very close to the Tower. You will be at the Tower in 10 minutes or less.

It really depends on where you are coming from. If you are starting in either Livorno or Florence you will first go to Pisa Centrale, where you would change for a train to Rossore. In most cases it takes longer to do this than to simply head to the Tower from Pisa Centrale, either on foot, by bus or by cab.

That does make a difference. The regional trains from La Spezia to Pisa will stop at San Rossore, it will be the last stop before Pisa Centrale. Note that this is not true of the IC trains, however.
