DebbieMacG Posted May 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2012 Time yes, table no, and even with a time you may still have to queue. Once on board you can request the same table and they will try and give it to you but it may involve a further wait. On our cruise last week they had no separate queue for those with/without reservations so reserving in advance was pointless!
navyrotorhead Posted May 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2012 Can you lock in a table and time for the entire cruise? Was recently on Solstice's transatlantic with select dining, several different groups of different sizes all had the same table at the same time for the whole cruise. One group was a couple at a 4 seat and would eat with a different couple every night. Another was a single gentleman at a 6 seat, and yet another was a group of 6 at a table for 10. Last year on Infinity through the canal, we were with the same group all but two nights at the same table for 6 at the same time. Put in your request on the first day and they will honor it. I was wondering if there was no separate queue for those with reservations if the line and the wait time was long. I thought there was always two lines. Maybe on your cruise there were not too may select diners?

Much of select dining seating is up to the host/hostess at the door. Some have no idea how to do it and have everyone line up in one line which is not how they should do it...but who trains them what's right? You can request a table, and they will try to seat people at other tables to keep the table you want free IF THEY CAN...but if there is a line, they will seat people at "your" table. Certainly I would have a problem with that....again it's not the "policy" to hold tables...it is the policy to seat people as the arrive, giving those with reservations priority. Note..it's priority over folks waiting without reservations...it's not priority as "we'll hold a table for you with a reserved sign on it". You experience may have been different, however the person at the door will either learn their job or perhaps may be cleaning bathrooms once their name reaches the "head of the hotel" or Celebrity HQ.
