Has the extra furniture arrived on Caribe Deck?

It was still the same in February. We were so excited to be assigned a Caribe deck balcony and so disappointed with the uncomfortable furniture that we hardly used it. I wouldn't walk on the blue deck w/o shoes and it looked dirty.

I'm sure that Princess will just wait until the new, cheap stuff falls apart before replacing it with (we hope) more comfortable balcony furniture. That will make paying a significant amount for that type of cabin more attractive.

This is exactly what they meant when they said it would be replaced. You didn't think they were going to dispose of new furniture before it had reached the end of it's useful life, did you? :p Of course it was a mistake & they realize that some people are not happy but why go to the extra expense of throwing it away before time? In a few more years it'll be gone.

We had 3 minis on Dolphin and one on Caribe. Thanks for letting me clarify that the real point I wanted to make was that not everyone thinks the new chairs are uncomfortable - especially with the ottomans.

We were on the Sapphire recently. We had a large group of 10 cabins and we all hated the new furniture. It was fine for a few minutes but it got to a point that that when we were outside, we just stood as the new furniture was very uncomfortable after sitting there for more than a few minutes.

I wish they would just send this furniture back. The old furniture was so much better. We will probably go back to HAL as we enjoy our balcony time.

I am wondering if the chairs would feel more comfortable if they added the ottomans so you could put your feet up and added the larger tables. This would be better than doing nothing.

No, not really. The adjustments for the recliners are odd on the new furniture. We found it best to just sit on the ottomans. Pathetic, really.

Princess screwed up on this.

Can someone post a pic of the new furniture?

And, can someone get back to us about what's going on with the furniture on the Ruby at this point? We are sailing on her in Sept. I would also like to know about the beds (specifically mattresses) and linens.

OK, I really need to get a life;)

Thanks

Yes, I am another one here who REALLY needs to 'get a life'! Hahahaha!!!

I have been looking at the Sapphire.

A current poster, in an inside cabin, said that that they seem to have new, upgraded mattresses....

So, in all fairness... If Princess is actually making a big changeover to better mattresses... then I shall give credit where it is due!

We are on the Ruby in 17 days and will report back to you. I strongly suspect that the balcony furniture is unchanged from the original as the Ruby is the newest ship in the fleet. As there are somewhere in the range of 27,000 chairs to change (if they did them all) they would certainly start with the oldest. I suspect that they are looking to change the ones that are worn out. This stuff does not last forever (and from reports the new stuff does not last long at all)

As far as Mattresses go, according to the Princess website and specific cabin types, pillow-top mattresses are in suites and mini-suites. It says nothing about mattress types in std balconies, ocean view or inside cabins.

Personally I have been in Std balcony cabins and found the mattresses to be firm which is my preference. Individuals have different preferences.

Speaking of that, there are some here that thought the new furniture was fine.. It varies with individuals. Personal comfort varies widely depending on the individual.

ps we will be in a mini-suite.

I've been telling others and myself that I've 3 wks till we sail,,,but you set me straight....holy crap, I'd better get a move on.

It was better last year when we only had 8 days lead time with our last minute TA. ..I couldn't procrastinate :)

Just received a reply from Princess to my question of balcony furniture and here is the reply:

re: Inquiry about Balcony Furniture,

Thank you for contacting Customer Relations Department. I am pleased to respond

to your inquiry.

The Sapphire Princess and Crown Princess at this time doesn't have a scheduled

Drydock/Wetdock to replace / upgrade furnitures on your upcoming cruise.

Sincerely,

Princess Cruises

Customer Relations Specialist

Our cruises are scheduled for October and December.

What a nice form letter.

My wife and I will be on the Grand in mid September, this is our second trip on Princess both on the Grand, and both on Caribe deck. The first trip in 2009 I loved the balcony, and used it every day. If this furniture turns out to be as bad as stated I will not come back to Princess. With only two trips I am not that invested with this company. We sailed once on Celebrity Millenium and enjoyed that ship and balcony, so I am not worried about changing cruise lines. So when I return in October I will post my review on the balcony conditions. Will I stay with Princess or go with someone else.....DA DA DA....stay tuned!

My DW AND I ARE GIVING PRENCESS AND OUR CARIBE BALCONY ONE CHANCE. SINCE WE SPEND SO MUCH OF OUR TIME THERE, THE FURNTURE IS IMPORTANT.

If this is your first time with the new furniture please go with an open mind - you may be surprised and not find it uncomfortable (not everyone does). There's no point in fretting over it now. Hope you have a wonderful cruise!

That's correct. Give it chance.......some people can be comfortable sitting on a park bench using the top of a fence post to rest their coffee cup on. :p:rolleyes:

Well Princess Customer Services doesnt know what its talking about, because we were on the Crown Princess in February when the furniture got swopped out. They took the old furniture off the balcony into the corridor and replaced it that afternoon with new type. It was a port day in the middle of our cruise! I remember it well as the corridors were hard to navigate.

(I know I misspelled Princess) My DW and I have had so many good times, enjoying our morning coffee with a table large enough to put two coffees and maybe a book or two. We talked about changing cabins when all this surfaced. Princess said they were listening, we'll see. This is not the first bad idea, they have come up with lately. Changing furniture is one thing, but in the middle of a cruise?

That's good to hear. It's surprising that they actually didn't wait till the newer furniture wore out before replacing it. :D
