hey everyone...so much information on here for a new carnival cruiser...

i have a couple of questions..first, my wife and I would like to have a dining table for 2, usually on past cruises, you could request when booking. the PVP said i couldnt request it but have to go to MDR when boarding to see what they could do. Do they usually accomodate?

next, off topic, i see a lot of people complaining about Carnival on here. piano bar dead, singer/piano player terribel, bad customer service in casino, bad food, kids in dirty diapers in pools, no chair hog enforcement, no breakfast on sea days. etc...

since this would be my first carnival cruise, im just wondering if i picked a bad time to start sailing carnival...i have only cruised with RCCL in the past. will my experience be comparable? are some people just being too picky about some things ?

just curious, im going regardless..

thanks

The maitre D can normally accommodate requests, however nothing is guaranteed.

Secondly remember you're on Cruise "Critic" and some around here feel its their duty to live up to the name. First I've ever heard of no breakfast on a sea day though. Buffets and MDR is open for breakfast everyday in my experience.

Like everything else in life if you want to be happy then you will. If you want to be miserable than you will. Enjoy your cruise!

im usually not very picky at all... give me some sun and a few cocktails and im a happy camper. just curious if some of these claims are exagerrated or anything.

Then you will have a great time!!! Don't take everything you read on here to heart. There are people on this board whose enjoyment in life is to knock Carnival and complain about everything.

next, off topic, i see a lot of people complaining about Carnival on here. piano bar dead, singer/piano player terribel , bad customer service in casino sometimes the biggest reason for bad customer service anywhere, is how badly the customer service person is being treated by the customer. When you expect to be treated like a king or queen, it's usually gonna end badly! LOL , bad food everyone's tastes are different. we happen to love the food. , kids in dirty diapers in pools haven't witnessed this....yet., no chair hog enforcement we never have trouble getting lounge chairs....but we don't need to be in the front row right at the pool either. , no breakfast on sea days so far that's only in the MDR on the Miracle and it's because of the comedy brunch.. etc...

since this would be my first carnival cruise, im just wondering if i picked a bad time to start sailing carnival...i have only cruised with RCCL in the past. will my experience be comparable? are some people just being too picky about some things ? YES some people will never be happy.

just curious, im going regardless..

thanks

I see you'll be on the Miracle....we're going on the Miracle for our 3rd time next month. It's our favorite!

Have a great cruise! :)

As far as MDR seating is concerned, if don't want to be seated with others, you might want to consider "Your Time Dining". First, you're not locked into a set dining time, and second, I don't think you're seated with anyone else on Your Time Dining. As far as the complaints you've read about, every cruise is different, even on the same ship. And what may be intolerable to some won't be to others. We were just on the Liberty three weeks ago and had a great cruise! I couldn't tell you for sure if there were any chairs being hogged near the main pool or not, since we opted to spend our time at the Adults Only pool at the rear of the Lido deck. There were always chairs available there. And, up on Deck 10, there were always chairs available. Since smoking is no longer allowed in the Piano Bar, we didn't spend any time there, and, on the occasions we walked by, I didn't see very many other people in there either. The quality of the piano player/singer will vary from ship to ship. I'm sure the level of customer service in the casino varies from ship to ship also. You'll often see complaints about the food at the buffet, especially about the temperature of the food. Since open flames are not used to keep the food hot (fire hazard), steam heat is used, which doesn't keep the food quite as hot. I've found the best bet is to get to the buffet as early as possible, to avoid long lines, and to try to get your food as soon as it's brought out from the kitchen and placed in the serving area. Above all, don't set your expectations unreasonably high, and go with the attitude that you're on vacation, and that nothing short of the ship sinking (God forbid!) is going to ruin your vacation. That's how we approach each cruise, and it's worked for us so far.:)

I love Carnival. I think you get 'poor' things that happen due to the people on the ship that don't follow rules or have respect for others (chair hogs, dirty diapers, etc) as for the entertainment on the ship I always find it the same as any other line....a vacation is what you make of it!

I bet you read no LUNCH in the MDR on port days and got it confused.

Breakfast is always in both the MDR and the buffet.

It is very comparative to RCL in terms of the cruise, though not in terms of the overall ship. RCL spends a ton more to build their ships .. and it shows. Carnival delivers a cheap cruise product at a cheap price. I like cheap cruises too. .. and also enjoy RCL. I like all cruises.

I think it is a fact on Carnival the waiters and the cabin stewards about a year or two ago got a heavier load rather than raises (i.e. it gives them more tips, so Carnival didnt have to pay them more) .. so dinner in the MDR takes longer and you get a little less service than before .. just plan on it ahead of time.

I think the food is comparable between the two lines myself. I like different foods on both lines and have favorites.
