rnvattes Posted May 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2012 I am doing some prelim research for a European cruise, and I think I'm seeing something but am not sure my eyes aren't playing tricks on me: Some of the cruise lines seem to pick passengers up along the way - for example, one set of passengers may start in France, while another set would start in Italy, but all would be on the same revolving itinerary. Does this make sense? One trip has a $350 price difference (if I'm reading this right) to start in France vs starting in Italy. Why would that be? Thanks in advance for any help on this! paul929207 Posted May 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2012 There are cruises that allow passengers to board in more than one port. There may be a difference in taxes for cruises starting in different countries??
Loonbeam Posted May 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2012 It's supply and demand. If they have more people getting off at Port X and less getting on, they will lower the price there, for the inverse, raise the price.
Pushka Posted May 30, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2012 Yes, this price difference happens on the Liberty of the Seas. People who embark in Barcelona, the main entry port, pay significantly less than those who board the next day, in Toulon France. Port fees?

Port fees? Yes, this is the one I saw the greatest price difference with! Not only is it more pricey to get on in Toulon, it is (for me anyway) also apparently a lot more expensive to fly to Toulon than Barcelona! Hmm... thanks for the feedback! paul929207 Posted May 30, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2012 If only a few are boarding in toulon, they have higher ground costs per person. Not sure that is $350 though
