Confused about Hotels in San Juan

I submitted this on the Royal Caribbean thread, so please accept my apologies to anyone who read this there.

We are sailing on Adventure. I understand she sails out of the Pan Am pier.

I cannot figure out:

1) if there are hotels near the pier (not the pier in Old San Juan.)

2) which hotels are close by

We do not want a resort, nor a casino. We want a clean place to sleep that has a pool and is a block or two from a beach and is not going to cost us an arm and a leg in cab fare to the pier. We also want a property that offers free continental breakfast.

So far, we seem to favor the Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn. Does anyone have experiences with either of these properties?

Thanks for any help.

There is nothing at the pier where the AOS sails from except a liquor store. You will need to take a taxi to and from, so choose the hotel that you want. THe cabs are regulated so the fare is pretty reasonable to OSJ. It will be somewhere around 16 plus .5o per bag if I remember correctly.

Enjoy your cruise!

I went to Priceline and bidded 75.00 for the Caribe Hilton the year we went probably a hundred now. No breakfast.

Probably your best bet is the Comfort or Hampton

As the previous said no hotel close to the pier within walking distance.

We used to stay at the Wyndham but has now changed to the Sheraton I think.

But no breakfast(resturant is expensive) and they have casino.

My sister and I stayed 1 night pre-cruise and 1 night post cruise at the Best Western Pierre. It wasn't too far from the beach(2 or 3 blocks) and the Casinos on the strip.

They do have a free breakfast of cereal and breads/pastries. They also have a nice pool area and hot tub. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It's not far from the airport and a short taxi ride to the port. It's also a short and easy bus ride into Old San Juan. The front desk can tell you where to catch the bus. Trip Advisor said that some were apprehensive about walking around the neighborhood at night. However, we didn't feel the least bit worried about walking to the restaurants down near the casinos after dark. There's alot of traffic on the streets and they are well lit.

We enjoyed our stay there and it was cheaper than some of the better located hotels.

Look into staying at the Comfort Inn. I just booked a 1 night pre-cruise stay for April 2006 before we leave on the Golden Princess. Rooms are about $110 per night. It does include breakfast(i think). It's about 3 miles from the Pan American Pier. There is also a Holiday Inn Express nearby. Also, the Wyndham Condado is directly across the Lagoon from the pier. If you stay there, ask for a room with a Lagoon view..............Karen

Although I didn't stay there, the Hampton Inn looked nice and the staff let me do a load of wash! The rooms looked to be typical Hampton Inn rooms, the place looked clean. There was a small pool and bar and it is maybe 2 blocks to the beach. I guess there is public beach access but I am not sure as we were at the Ritz Carlton on Marriott Points.

We stayed at the Condado...no breakfast but it wasn't bad.
