Marina Dancing

We love to dance and when on a cruise plan our dinner reservations so we don't miss a chance to dance. Can any one tell me when there is dancing on the Marina in Horizons or is there another spot to dance? We don't disco, more like swing, fox trot, latin etc. We are sailing on Marina on Sept. 27. bigred70

We love ballroom dancing and did a TA on Marina last November.

The best dancing was in Horizons because the band (with a singer) that played there was much better than the group that was in the Lounge (which was awful). i think it will depend on the music. Just follow the good dance music.

Our recent Nautica cruise had great music everywhere on the ship. There is no way to be sure. I think it is very cruise-specific.

I found your post searching "dancing on Oceania Marina". We will be going on the Marina on Oct 22 from Athens to Istanbul. This is our first time on the Marina. Please share with us your dance experience on Marina. We are ballroom dancers as well. Thank you. My email is Guin@lyster.com

As you say, the only true dance floor on the Marina is in Horizons where a live band plays from 6PM until 10PM (less the usual breaks) after which a DJ takes over until midnight or so.

The Marina Orchestra also plays dance music for about an hour in the Marina Lounge before that evening's entertainment. Show times vary significantly, dependent on what the "act" is, and sometimes there is more than one show of an evening, so I cannot be more specific than that.

Enjoy your cruise :D

If our recent experience on Riviera is any comparison (our first on OCL), you are going to be SO disappointed with your cruise if you like ballroom dancing. On our 10 day sailing, FIVE days had no dancing other than a DJ (who mainly played things that could not be danced to as they had variable tempos and the DJ did these very odd, sudden cuts between songs - one would stop before it ended and the next would start immediately).

So, with 50% of our days non-dancing, we were truly disappointed and will not sail on OCL again. On some of the few days when there was dancing, it was as little as a 30 minute set before the show. The orchestra was excellent and played the right tempo for dancing, but they like to riff which results in overly long songs for dancing. They also had very little variety in their choice of dance styles (I only recall 1 jive on the cruise as it was almost all cha cha and rhumba with a fox trot here and there and the odd samba or waltz). In addition, the band leader almost never speaks so people are not encouraged to dance.

We found the rest of the entertainment program onboard to be very thin (as expected since this line isn't known for its entertainment). There were very few musicans - only once was there live music on deck for a sail away and nothing was cleared away to create a dance area.

For those who are not yet booked, if you like to dance, consider Crystal or HAL. I wish too that it was only the dancing that disappointed us on Oceania, but that wasn't the case.
