Epic gym...is it included or extra?

I'm new to NCL. I thought I read somewhere that you had to purchase a day pass to the spa if you want to use the gym facilities. Is this correct? I'm hoping that information wasn't correct.

It's a pretty nice fitness center with great views. Use of the basic equipment is free. There are charges for the optional classes and personal trainers though.

I've been doing some research for my 2013 Epic cruise and it looks like the gym and DIY fitness equipment is included with the cruise. The spa pass is an extra charge that gives you access to the steam rooms, heated tile loungers, additional lounge chairs and various therapy pools.

The gym facilities are free to use - there is a charge for some classes.
