ann2013 Posted June 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2012 We are going to do the NCL Grand Mediterranean cruise next summer from Barcelona to Venice. We can either go mid May or early June. May not be much of a difference, but was wondering about weather and crowds. Any advice which would be better?
paul929207 Posted June 17, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Weather is difficult to predict. On average, it will be a little cooler in May than in June. Crowds will be a little smaller in May too.
ILoveScotland Posted June 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2012 It was extremely hot in Italy in late October the year I cruised out of Rome. So, predicting weather is tricky.
Rare Azulann Posted June 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2012 You might also want to factor in the airfare. Mid May might be a little cheaper for air fare becuase school is still in session. The Med will be warm to hot depending on which port or how far inland you will venture.
eetonaee Posted June 18, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Crowds at Trevi Fountain May 29, 2012 Cruised June 1-11 with hot sun the entire time but next year it could be the opposite.
Rare Keith1010 Posted June 18, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2012 I would go in May and that is because the weather should be a bit cooler and the ports somewhat less crowded. To me ideal is April or late September/early October. Keith
Rare John Bull Posted June 18, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Because the climate is very similar, & weather on the day can turn the theory on its head, I'd be inclined to consider other factors - have you checked which days of the week you are in port, any local public holidays, kids' mid-term breaks, airfare & cruise price differences ?
