We have only been on one cruise before ,on Lberty when we were on this ship we stayed in a suite so we had a gold card which meant we were able to use an extra couple of lounges this was very handy especially for breakfast as it was very quiet and relaxing, going again this year with Splendour again in a GS was wondering if Splendour has these extra lounges also

Just came off the Splendour this past week which was refurbished last year and you would be able to go to the CL for breakfast. It is very limited with a continental breakfast but quite and relaxing with several windows to lookout. What they have done is taken one of the entertainment lounges and when you enter, they took some of the seating area on the left and made a Diamond Lounge and on the right a CL lounge. They added a Park Cafe in the Solarium which had a limited breakfast. Other than that, Windjammer, Dining room or room service for breakfast.

Hi Dave.

DH and I will be on Splendour in November and finding any information about the ship is very difficult on the boards. I was hoping that since you just got off of her that might be kind enough to answer some questions???

1. Did you attend the Chef's Table? If so, can you give a review? Do you have the menu?

2. Did you dine at Viking Crown Lounge? If so, do you have pictures of menu? Can you make a meal here? Or is it just snacks?

3. Did you purchase the AI beverage package on board? If so, how is this distinguished is there a sticker on your seapass card? How was the package received by the bartenders? What about waitstaff in the restaurants? Did they seem turned off by it or give you a hard time? We are thinking about doing the high end package ($55/pp) just so we can budget accordingly and not have to worry about anything.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Angie,

We were on the Splendour in May and I can answer a couple of your questions.

1. We paid for a dining package ahead of time that cost $105. It included the Chef's Table, Izumi and Chops. When you order the package you are supposed to be given reservations for the "Chefs" on the first night and book the rest when you get on the ship. When we got on the ship the first day we found out that they really don't offer the "Chef's" on the first night because of luggage, etc. This according to the Maitre D. We were moved to a Thursday night.

When you meet up for the Chef's table you meet in the Entertainment lounge for Champaign from 6:30 to 7. At 7 the you are escorted to the main dining room where there is a closed off area for the Chef's Table. Dinner for us lasted until almost 10:30. I really enjoyed this experience and will see if I can find the menu and scan it for you.

2. We had appetizers in the Viking Lounge before dining at Izumi. I really did not see it as a full meal kind of venue.

3. On our sailing AI beverage package was not available. It would have been something I really would have stongly considered.

Thank you Brett for all of the information. I would really appreciate a copy of the menu if you can find it.

Thanks again!

Angie,

At the conclusion to the dinner you get a cookbook signed by the chef, an chef's apron and a picture like the one I posted. They were very accomodating with the menu also. The person I was with has shellfish allergies and the beginning salad for him was changed from the lobster/king crab to chicken.

That sounds like a good package for 105 dollars, I really like the idea of the chef's table. I wish this was also on the Vision, but I guess that will have to wait until after her refurb next year...

I think the price varies by ship for the package. I really think it was a great deal! The only thing I did not like is only being able to book the Chef's Table and having to wait til you get on the ship to book the other to restaurants. I would have rather booked them all before I boarded.

Hi! I was on the Splendour June 16-24. I'll try to remember the entertainment. The first night was a Russian acrobat couple. They did juggling and hula hoops. It was only okay, in my opinion. The second night was the RCI singers and dancers doing a show called "Dancing Through the Movies" which was well done if a little cheesy. The third night I missed the show but heard it was fabulous, The Celtic Tenors. The next night was the RCI singers and dancers doing a ballroom dancing show that went through many decades of song and dance and was pretty cute. Then there was a singer from the London theater who was very talented but not to my taste, and I had a headache so I left. My family really liked her. The last night was a magician who I heard was great, but I was packing so I missed it.

I seem to be missing a night -- can anyone else help?

Other entertainment: I didn't like any of the bands in the Centrum. I was also not impressed by the aerialist show, but then I am a circus fan and thought they would be real aerialists, not the dancers from the theater. Other people loved the aerialist show.

Brett I was wondering why you were not offered the all inclusive drinks package on the Splendour....which itinerary did you do.

Thanks Geraldine

There were several of us that wanted that AI drink package and it was not offered. We cruised Bari, Corfu, Thira, Turkey and Katakalon.

Thanks Brett. I think our itinerary is the same except we are leaving from Venice. I know you can not prebook the all inclusive package from their website but I just took it for granted that you could purchase when you got onboard as they now offer it on the Splendour and I do believe some people have used it. I am sailing on the 13th July...hopefully we will get offered it.

I am sorry I did not include Venice. We left from Venice also. I really loved this cruise. I have to admit though it seemed like they were working out some "bugs" in the system. The Ipads were not in the rooms yet for our cruise. I have read that they are now. I had booked the Specialty dinner package before we left and was scheduled to have the Chef's Table dining on the first night. I was called my the Maitre D about an hour before dinner to say the don't do the Chef's Table on the first night and he rescheduled me. I tried to get the AI drink package and no one seemed to be aware that they offered it. All in all it was a fantastic cruise and the "bugs' in the system I just attribute to getting thing in order after drydock and just getting to Europe.

I was on the cruise with Brett and will echo what he said. They did a great job with the overhaul, to me the ship did not feel dated. Utilizing parts of the Viking Crown to add Izumi and Chops work well as we went to both of these restaurants. If you click on the Splendour link in my signature there is a lengthy picture review of the cruise. :)
