cruizn2escape Posted June 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2012 I am trying to assist a friend who will be sailing on the Diamond princess to Alaska - Here are a few of her questions: Are you able to get cash from a credit card while on board? (she wants to get cash to use in the ports) Also does the ship have an ATM? Wouldn't the ports in Alaska have ATMs?
caribill Posted June 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2012 I am trying to assist a friend who will be sailing on the Diamond princess to Alaska - Here are a few of her questions:Are you able to get cash from a credit card while on board? (she wants to get cash to use in the ports) Not directly. She can go to the casino and have cash downloaded to her cruise card and then go to the casino window to actually get the money. Her cabin account will now have that charge added to it. Also does the ship have an ATM? Yes. I think the service fee is around $6. Of course ATM withdrawals to a credit card (vs. a debity card) will be considered a cash advance and will have bank fees and interest. Wouldn't the ports in Alaska have ATMs? yes I suggest your friend bring sufficient cash with her. She will not need much cash in the ports except for minor souvenirs and local bus/taxi transportation and tour tipping. Most shops and restaurants will accept credit cards. chipmaster Posted June 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 22, 2012 Since its the USA almost everywhere they do take credit cards, we used this for almost everything in port. Bring cash, or if you simply aren't comfortable you can go old school and bring travelers cheques and cash them at the pursor's desk. There are/should be ATMs in port, but port time you want to avoid looking for an ATM and many could have fees. I don't think withdrawing from casino is interest free, but you can research that. diane.in.ny Posted June 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2012 I don't think withdrawing from casino is interest free, but you can research that. It is if you do it through your cabin card and a slot machine. You don't have to play the machine. Just put the cabin card into the machine. Follow the instructions to transfer money to the card which will be charged to your on board account. Pam in CA Posted June 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 22, 2012 If you use the ATM on the ship, it's dependent on an Internet connection, which is not always available. I bring enough cash for incidentals and souvenirs, and use my credit card for purchases in port.
smwg Posted June 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2012 On a previous cruise, with another cruise line, they allowed me to cash a check at Passenger Services, for a maximum of $100. No fees. Is anyone aware if Princess allows this same courtesy?
