RCCL employment questions, just out of pure curiosity?

I am a Certified Electronics technician, and out of curiosity I looked on RCCL's careers website for jobs that would fit what I do. I found one that was "slots technician" which is an Electronics tech. that fixes, repairs and does preventative maintenance on casino machines. Just out of pure curiosity how does employment work on a cruise ship? Meaning it doesn't say what ship, like could I request only working on Explorer because i live in NJ or Florida ships if I lived in FL? Do they hire American's for jobs like this or others? Do they pay you in US dollars if your American? These are just curious questions I have always wanted to know before goofing around looking at what jobs RCCL has. kind of an unusual thread I admit but maybe some of you have answers to these questions. Thanks for any info.

Apply for the job and go from there ... obvioulsy your interested. They may tell you all you want to hear. Slot machine tech maybe land based only... all they have to do is throw up an out of service sign while out to sea.

I know that they do hire Americans for jobs on ships. We got to know Jayme who was from Bixoli Mississippi and worked with the entertainment staff on The Voyager of the Seas.

 

She was worried that when The Voyager was being repositioned to Asia full time that Royal Caribbean wouldn't be able to find her a job on The Mariner or The Navigator so she could stay closer to home. I never found out if they had helped her.

 

So to answer one of your questions, no I don't think that you could request which ship you could sail from.

 

But apply for the job and if it is offered to you and you can't get on the ship(s) you want, you can always turn it down.

Thanks guys for the info, I appreciate it. I honestly wasn't looking to become employed by RCCL. I was just curious how it all worked. I mean I would only be interested in working on Explorer, absolutely no other ship but I am not interested. It would I think ruin my love of cruising on my vacations. I mean would you want to become a passenger on a ship you just got off of working? I think it would definitely ruin my love of cruising. Interesting info though guys, appreciate it.

I would have to take a $7.00/hr pay cut to take the same position on a cruise ship..then again, room and board are included.

You could work on another ship then you could have your vacation on Explorer.

 

Try another cruise line for working, my son moved from RCI to Disney cruises
