Shore excursion pricing

Recommended Posts

I was looking into shore excursions for our south pacific / fiji cruise in october on rhapsody and decided to check the US website to see if there was any difference. Well i was surprised to see there was big differences in the prices.

For example, the mele cascades in vanuatu was about $64 on US and $104 on AUST site. This pricing difference was consistent for all excursions i was looking at.

Can anyone explain this, as the AUD is at parity as the USD???????

Because its an American company and they look after their own? Who knows! Easiest thing to do is organise your own tour, and alot cheaper too!

It is not always cheaper doing it yourself. I was looking at some bus tours in Canada and found that the RCL excursion fee was cheaper than the bus tour web site advertised rate. In the tour I was looking at, RCL wanted $40 (US) and the bus company wanted $45 plus HST (Canadian). From the descriptions, these were exactly the same tour.

Just a note that some people prefer a ship's tour for safety and comfort. We did ships' tours in Europe, just because we had never been there before and it was unchartered territory for us. We gathered in the theater and were escorted off the ship and to our air-conditioned coach as a group. Fabulous. We know we paid more but for our peace of mind and comfort, it was well worth it. :)
