Barca cable car - advice please!

We are in Barca for one day, this August, on the Grand Princess. Having visited twice before, we are quite content to have a fairly chilled out day, and were wondering about the cable car, the Transbordador. Can anyone tell me the location of this, from the port, and how we get there? Can we pre-book tickets? And finally, any opinions etc would be gratefully received.

Many thanks, in advance

We have never taken this cable car but it should be pretty easy to get to. You could take the blue port bus to the Columbus statue and walk from there. Here is a link for it:http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/en/attractions/cable-car-barcelona.html

Just a note to say that Barca is not an abbreviation for Barcelona.

Barça (with a cedilla and pronounced "barsa") is Barcelona football team. Barca without the cedilla is a boat.

I am saying this because if you use "Barca" when there no one will understand you.

It is possible to abbreviate the city to BCN (the airport code) but this is only when written.

Sometimes local people use the abbreviation "Barna" but best to always call it Barcelona then there will be no confusion.

This cable car goes 1400 yards from Mont Juic to Port Vell. The intermediate stop is not in use. The easiest way would be a round trip from Port Vell (near the beach)which can be reached by the H o Ho bus. We took it one way from the other end-Mont Juic. We got off the HoHo at the other tram ( the one to the castle) and walked down to the mountain cable car stn. It is a rather outdated tram but nice views from Mont Juic and of the harbour ending at the beach. No need to reserve.

  • 2 weeks later...

To walk to the cable car from the port/Columbus monument, you simply follow the port round. The walk takes maybe 15-20 mins. The cable car costs 10€ per person one way or 15€ return.

It's very easy to find as long as you keep walking round with the port on your right hand side.
