tpbf Posted July 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2012 Here in the colonies, most cities are set up to accept credit cards in taxi cabs. Is this so in London? Commonly we might carry a lot of GBP just for taxi rides and credit cards seem ok almost everywhere else. What is the status? No having to carry much cash would be good. Langoustine Posted July 9, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2012 Some will, but here's the trick, quoted from the official London transport guide: "Many black cabs accept payment by credit or debit card but check with the driver before the trip starts. If you pay by card there is an additional charge of a maximum of £1 or 12.5% of the metered fare, whichever is greater." In addition, unless you have a Capital One credit or debit card, there will be a currency conversion fee of up to 3%. My advice: use cash.
tjcox9 Posted July 14, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2012 We'll disembark the QM2 from NYC in Southampton and will require a taxi to our hotel. Any chance they take credit cards there......or is it the same story as in London? Thanks for any info on this.
gosport11 Posted July 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2012 I would have £10 to pay, depending on where your staying,i know the cabs where we live take cards with a lot of huff n puffing and extra added :):)
