Cannes DIY plan

Hello,

 

Based on the many many threads that I have read about the subject, this is my plan for Cannes when myself and my boyfriend go there on the August 9th sailing of Serenade of the Seas. We're there from 9 am - 6pm, with last tender at 5:30... Any recommendations or ideas are extremely welcome.

 

We are planning to walk the twenty minute walk from the tender pier to the train station and then buy a train ticket to Monte Carlo. We don't want to spend too much time here, just have a look around, see the Grand Casino (from the outside) and take a few pictures. Then, we'd like to get back on the train and spend the majority of our time in Nice. We had considered adding Eze to our day, or Saint-Paul-de-Vence, but we think it might take too much time. Then, the plan would be to get a train back to Cannes for around 3:00, have a look around there and board the ship.

 

Thoughts? It was very difficult ot decide not to go to Saint-Paul-de-Vence, but I was very worried about time.

hey! i will be on the ship also and i am trying to figure out what to do. only thought i had was that it might be a good idea to book one of the RC tours to get an early tender off the ship and then have half of a day to plan my own thing. have you seen our thread and signed up for the mix and mingle?

The train ride to Monte Carlo will take you about 90 minutes or less. The trip to St Paul De Vence or Eze involves public bus transportation and if the schedules do not tie in, you will be pushing the envelope.

Recently returned from Cannes and attempted to do St. Paul De Vence from Cannes. Due to chao at train station and the number of people trying to buy tickets, we change our plans and took the bus to Antibes. So plan accordingly.

My wife and I are considering Antibes from Cannes. What was your opinion? We're interested in museums (my wife is the world's best elementary art teacher) and understand there is a Picasso museum there. What did you find to do there? Also is there a public beach?

 

As a suggestion to others, the last time we were in that area on a cruise, we went to Nice and visited the Chagall and Matisse museums. Both are very worthwhile attractions.

Antibes, the old town area, was a medieval fortess town. When you walk the laneways and back streets you will discover unique little shops and architecture. The Picasso Museum is located in this section. We were there on Monday when it is closed. Rick Steves has a walking tour and map of the old town, which you can download. The bus (200)from Cannes is one Euro. Two locations in Cannes, that you can acess the bus ( Hotel Ville or the Train station), the ride is twenty minutes. When you get off the bus in Antibes (Dugomnier stop on the bus shelter), walk around the corner and in the square (Place De Gaulle), you will see a tourist office, which will give you detail information of the area. The return bus stop is "Briand", which is around the corner from the other stop. There is small beach at the harbour area, which we passed on our tour of the area. I hope this helps.

My fiancee and I are also planning the same itinerary for the same day as you. We are going to do Monte Carlo for about an hour, then head to Nice and then back to Cannes around 3 ish all via train.
