Does anyone happen to know if and when carnival will have a "more the merrier" or good sale? We are looking to book for next summer out of Galveston. I am thinking those dates won't go on sale till closer to sail dates.

Have found that Carnival sales are anything but.

However if you want to look suggest you check the website periodically.

Truly not trying to sound smart alecky .... but if people knew there would be a sale with better prices, lets say in 2 weeks, they would all wait to book, so they dont tell us when sales will pop up.

I found a great price next July .. but I have to drive to NOLA for Conquest. I too would prefer Galveston, as I live in Texas and its about 10 hours to drive to NOLA (by the time I stop to eat and get gas .. people can say its shorter, but who can drive that far without eating or gassing up I dont know).

But to me thats something else to consider .. if you find a much cheaper price out of NOLA, it is worth driving.

Yea they dont ever let you know when the next sale will be. We just booked last week at the early saver rate for $549 (balcony) and last night it was already up to $569. Glad we booked when we did! We took Conquest last year, it was great!! We are taking Triumph this go around (5 night cruise) & it's pretty much like the Conquest.. try scoping that one out, its a galveston cruise. :D

I am looking at the Triumph. I just thought maybe someone had noticed a trend in the timing of sales! I have figured it out at a lot of retail stores and wondered if cruise lines operated the same way. We just got back from a NOLA Conquest cruise and we really want to do a 5 day and the Elation does not appeal to us.

I had a friend go on Triumph, her very first cruise, and she hated it. Got a booth that was sunken, lukewarm food, lots of complaints, sure didnt live up to the commercials.

On the other hand, I think her expectations as a first time cruiser vs the price were overblown. I think for the cheap price Triumph is just fine.

What I would be looking at is pack n go rates .. that is how I got my very very best ever price last January on Triumph. Way better than regular sale rates.

Just be aware, Triumph is like Elation .. NO BELLS AND WHISTLES, heck it did not even have mongolian bbq. Its not really a step up from Elation, just a larger ship... and the buffet is going to be more crowded as they did not increase the buffet size from elation to triumph .. until they got to conquest.

Just be aware you get what you pay for.. and Triumph ... the price is cheap for a reason. If Elation did not appeal to you.. you might be highly dissapointed in Triumph, remember its about the same exact age as Elation. In fact I just looked .. Elation 1998, Triumph 1999, so say Elation does not appeal .. Im curious why pick Triumph.. because its Galveston?? any other reason?

Remember, no pay restaurants, no upgrades, no serenity (Elation has a serenity area), no upgrades yet in food stations, still has the chinese window, instead of switching to mongolian bbq, no sur mer like conquest. half the buffet size of conquest.

I dont want you to be dissapointed like my friend was thinking its a step up from Elation, it isnt.

Thinking about going through the Panama Canal and thought about going on the Miracle out of New York. The price went up $900 for a balcony for 2 of us. Looking at other options. I saw that Firefly, you have gone on Celebrity. How does it compare to Carnival? I've gone on 8 Carnival, 1 Norwegian and 1 Princess. We are looking at Celebrity Infinity for April 11th. My husband and I are retired and we can go anytime. Thanks for your help!

OP: Carnival has mulitple sales each and every week, rarely are any of them anything special. Best bet is to just find the dates, ship and cabin you want and book it. Depending on how you book you may or may not be able to get price drops. If you want to cruise out of Galveston check out the Magic. But if you go take good walking shoes. That is one big boat.

I can be elite on celebrity since Im diamond on RCL so that to me is a big inducement.. free perks.

Ive done 2 Princess and found it a little stuffy, but the food was good. Thats all it is with Celebrity, a little better service, better food, but the entertainment will be quieter, which wouldnt bother me as long as they have shows at night, thats all I care about.

I want to try NCL, just has not fit in yet.

Agree with this, pretty much.

Last year I booked a cruise and happened to just go on the Carnival website and saw that the balcony price was only $20 p/p more than my inside room price and realized there was a sale going on. My room price had gone down over $100 p/p. So I just called and upgraded to the balcony and paid the extra per person.

This year during this '72-hour-sale' that Carnival just did a few days ago.. My room price went UP like $40 p/p. :S

During the last 2-3 sales, cabin for our upcoming Dream cruise was higher than a day or two before

Firefly, we have multiple people going this time and Galveston more convenient, also we like balconies and on Elation you have to book a suite.

thats true, elation is one of the fantasy class that didnt get balconys. too bad we lost ecstasy that got balconys.. so they sent her all fixed up to florida. figures.

I think we all know the Triumph is not what the Magic & all the new ships are... there's not many other ways you can relax on the ocean, have some drinks, gamble in a casino, eat whatever you want & go to some shows for $1000 these days! As long as you are ok with not going on the daddy of all cruise ships then it's going to be a great time! We are not complainers especially when it comes to getting a break from our 2 kiddos for a change :p Normally on a 5 night cruise you get the small ships but this one is comparable to the Conquest as far as size.

How do you go? To Shreveport then South on 49, or down to Houston and East on 10? I'll be going in Feb and still debating on the route.

I've been on Ecstasy twice, I was not overly impressed either time, but it was much better the second time around. The first time it was looking very worn down, and the sound system was pitiful.

@golf

good to hear! we are way excited and hate to wait another 9 months before setting sail :D

But please bear in mind our last cruise was a few years ago. Probably been at least one drydock during this period so would expect you would have a great cruise.

I go thru Shreveport I guess it is and there is a turnoff, not well marked, to cut down to 49 sounds right, I would have to look it up.

I for sure dont go thru Houston, thats longer for me.

49 is the most boring road, get gas before you turn off on it, not many places to get gas once you get going down that long road of nothing. got to one station, and it only had diesel? I almost ran out of gas.
