private tours from villafranche

You are not going to get a "cheap" tour guide in the south of France. What you can do is go on your CC Roll Call and see if you can get a small group together and perhaps hire a private guide/driver which will normally cost 300-500 Euros for a day. On the other hand you can take the local bus (bus #100) from Villefranche to Monte Carlo for the total cost of 1 Euro per person (one way). As an alternative you can take the train from Villefranche to Monte Carlo (only about 15 min) but it does cost more then the bus and the Monte Carlo train station is not as conveniently located as the bus stops. Monte Carlo is relatively easy to do on your own if you have a guide book (Rick Steves is highly recommended by many) or download some decent tour info.

sailing to villafranche ship docks on thurs 2 aug,are there any private tours to see nice monaco and monte carlo? that work out cheaper than doing the ships excursions.

Did you check in with your roll call? We have a private tour booked for Villefranche for September and since we have four people from our roll call joining us, the per person cost is actually lower than the cruise lines' option.

Good luck with your planning and have a great vacation.

You usually tender into Villefranche. The train station is right there (up a flight of stairs). The train takes you to Monte Carlo in about 30 minutes. It is a local no frills train but does the job.

You arrive right in the middle of the city in Monte Carlo. It is an up hill walk to Monaco. On a hot summer day I found the walk exhausting but it isn't far. Best plan is to pace yourself and shop along route.

When you do the return train- make sure that the train stops in Villefranche because not all the local trains do. I learned this the hard way and fortunately met some other confused Americans on the train and we got off at a stop and taxi'd back to the ship.

You do not need to do a tour here. It's cheap and relatively easy. I was 42 and in good health and Monte Carlo is hilly and there is lots of walking even with train. So if you aren't "spry"- I'd opt for a bus tour that takes you to Monaco because I was frankly exhausted when I got to the Palace and there are more stairs from the base of the Palace. My friend tried to go to the Casino and was refused admission because she was in shorts. So make sure that you dress appropriately if you go there.

I wish that you were on our ship. Not one person wanted to join our shore excursion with our tour guide, Ingrid. She is highly rated and her reviews are wonderful. ;) Not even any interest at all. So, my DH and I are doing it on our own and I'm sure we'll get to do and see even more around Villefranche...

Hope you had a wonderful time in Villefranche. We really enjoyed our time with Ingrid. She is a great guide and provided a lot of information.

We were lucky to get others to join us for almost all of our private tours, except one. And that was probably our favorite day. It was more about the destination (Cinque Terre - fabulous), than anything else.

Sorry for the delay in responding (we were sailing on a catamaran in the Caribbean with no internet access).

Here is the link to Ingrid's website - http://www.kultours.fr/ and her email address is schmucki@club-internet.fr

Good luck with your planning and have a fantastic vacation.

We took a tour of Eze, Peille and Sant Agnes , just about the most beautiful hill towns in the Monte Carlo area with Ingrid of Kultours. She is a fantastic guide, very well-informed and more importantly, a good ,very enjoyable story teller.

We have booked withIngrid for this August. Can't wait!

You are in for a treat. We just got off the Liberty of the Seas and toured with Ingrid. It was the best tour of the trip. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about the region. She makes you feel like an old friend. She will customize your day for you. We toured Nice, Eze and St Paul. I can't say enough great things about her!

Can you tell us the name of the tour company you used? I assume Steve was the guide. We are looking for a reasonable one that is good.
