Quebec City Customs

We are on a 7 day from Boston to QC this fall and will be taking a cab to YQB on a Friday morning. Question, where/when do we clear Canadian Customs and how much time should we expect it will take? Thanks in advance for any information you may have.:)

You'll clear Canadian Customs & Immigration at the port as you get off the ship, and then clear US Customs & Immigration (assuming you're flying to a US destination) when you land in the USA. If you're flying home via YUL/Montreal or YYZ/Toronto; you'll clear US Customs/Immigration at YUL/YYZ just after checkin, and land in the USA as if you were a domestic arrival.

Does this apply to Canadians as well? Our cruise originates in New York and we have a few Canadian ports before we disembark in Quebec City. Will we clear customs in Quebec City or our first Canadian port?

Immigration [the entry of people] will likely be handled on board, before your 1st Canadian stop. Customs [the entry of goods] will be a very brief formality (hand over a declaration card) when you get off the ship.

Same will apply for both Canadians and foreign nationals.

On my trip up from California in May with a final stop in Victoria, immigration and customs was in Vancouver. There was a customs presence in Victoria but that was mainly to keep an eye out for smuggling as well as provide entry services to those disembarking there. Formal clearance for both immigration and customs was in Vancouver. I asked a customs agent at Victoria about this and he said that intermediate stops don't count as having landed in Canada for customs purposes. That point was important as clearing in Victoria would have meant being out of Canada for less than a week for duty-free exemption (back when it mattered).

FWIW, ships stores and duty-free sales (presumably the casino too but I never checked it out) was closed from the time the ship remained in Canadian waters from the time it started to enter Victoria until presumably it got to and left Vancouver.

Having not done that cruise, I would find it hard to guess where or when you will clear customs. You have the example above where there is no formal customs clearance on a Coastal repositioning that stops in Victoria before going on to Vancouver. However there maybe someone along who has done the cruise that can provide the information.
