RuxieGirl Posted July 30, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2012 I want to get some really awesome, really authentic mofongo when we are in Puerto Rico. Where in San Juan would you recommend we go for this? Thanks!!
Poppet1964 Posted July 30, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2012 Not exactly the answer to your question (sorry), but we're doing the San Juan food tour the night we're in San Juan. SUPPOSEDLY, they take you to 4 different restaurants for authentic Puerto Rican fare. Just google San Juan food tour. We've done them in Philadelphia, PA and Charleston, SC and had a great time both times.
Ms411 Posted July 30, 2012 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2012 My host in Old San Juan recommends Jibarito (or at least I think that's the name of it!) Others on CC have also recommended it so try doing a search. My host also recommends that you order it "with sauce" or it can be kind of dry. I tried it somewhere else (two different places) and didn't like it (too garlicky for my taste), so I haven't tried it again.

Dayenu Posted August 3, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 3, 2012 Sorry I can't help, but today I've learned the meaning of the word "mofongo" so thank you! ;)
toonjie Posted August 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2012 I'll second El Jibarito, it is awesome, well worth the trek up the hill and usually overlooked by most tourists. Parrot Club, if you want to stay closer to the piers.
grvdggr71 Posted August 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2012 I would recommend El Patio de Sam. My wife and I loved it, it has fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor, and it's located right in the heart of Old San Juan.
frito58 Posted August 5, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 5, 2012 We had some at Bebo's cafe . Its a wonderful place to eat . Its a local place that someone told us about . Its in the Condodo area.
B3witched Posted August 14, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2012 I would recommend "Raices". They are close to the pier in Old San Juan and they serve Mofongo with a choice of 3 or 4 different sauces. Great Mojitos as well. Enjoy Puerto Rico
Alohanuiloa Posted August 23, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 23, 2012 My friend and I had mofongos at a Puerto Rican place named Cafe del Angel, in the Condado area. We loved it ! the waiters were very nice.
