Mofongo in San Juan??

I want to get some really awesome, really authentic mofongo when we are in Puerto Rico. Where in San Juan would you recommend we go for this?

Not exactly the answer to your question (sorry), but we're doing the San Juan food tour the night we're in San Juan. SUPPOSEDLY, they take you to 4 different restaurants for authentic Puerto Rican fare.

 

Just google San Juan food tour. We've done them in Philadelphia, PA and Charleston, SC and had a great time both times.

My host in Old San Juan recommends Jibarito (or at least I think that's the name of it!) Others on CC have also recommended it so try doing a search.

 

My host also recommends that you order it "with sauce" or it can be kind of dry. I tried it somewhere else (two different places) and didn't like it (too garlicky for my taste), so I haven't tried it again.

Hands down....Barrachinas....so good...especially with a pina colada and the Flamenco dancers in the background!!

I'll second El Jibarito, it is awesome, well worth the trek up the hill and usually overlooked by most tourists. Parrot Club, if you want to stay closer to the piers.

I would recommend El Patio de Sam. My wife and I loved it, it has fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor, and it's located right in the heart of Old San Juan.

We had some at Bebo's cafe . Its a wonderful place to eat . Its a local place that someone told us about . Its in the Condodo area.

I would recommend "Raices". They are close to the pier in Old San Juan and they serve Mofongo with a choice of 3 or 4 different sauces. Great Mojitos as well.

My friend and I had mofongos at a Puerto Rican place named Cafe del Angel, in the Condado area. We loved it ! the waiters were very nice.
