ep1080 Posted August 4, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Hi, any suggestion on what to get and where to get it. A lot of people mention rum cakes, do they have a lot of alcohol, and where would you suggest to get it around Grand Cayman. I think we will be going to Stingray City, Is there any place around Stingray City or near the cruise port ? Thanks for your input
bookbabe Posted August 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2012 More info on rum cakes is here: http://www.tortugarumcakes.com/ Not sure of the exact amount, but I don't find them to be too heavy on the rum. There's no shopping near Stingray City since it's out in the middle of the ocean, but there's tons of shopping near the port area.
ep1080 Posted August 4, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Thanks for the reply. have you tried them, are they really sweet. I am mostly thinking of giving it as souvenirs. Where would be a good place to get on the island, or they are everywhere, cheaper to get there or online?
Katie Lou Posted August 4, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2012 I have had several of the flavors. I think the chocolate is probably the least sweet. I found the banana and the original quite sweet and they tasted quite rummy. I would probably buy them from the Tortuga store. They are available in almost every store on the island, but there is a better variety and choice of sizes at the main store.
ep1080 Posted August 4, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Thanks for your reply. Do you know where the main store is located ? How about their Blue mountain coffee, have you tried it ? Any other souvenir you would recommend or general souvenir shops to get T shirts, beach bags etc ?
cb at sea Posted August 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2012 We bought some beer bottle koozies...with GC logo.....that's all! (Not huge souvenier folks!)...it was as a small shop about 1 block from the tender dock.
heydn62 Posted August 4, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2012 Thanks for your reply. Do you know where the main store is located ? There's a store on Church St, which is the main street just outside the port area. It will be perhaps a 5 min walk - to your right as you leave the tender area. They usually have a variety of samples to try inside the store.

Its been a few years since I've been there, so I can't give directions, but if I remember, it isn't hard to find and everyone knows where it is. It was within walking distance of the port. I haven't tried the coffee. Last time I was there, I bought a ceramic stingray christmas tree ornament ( it was wearing a santa hat). I don't buy alot of souvenirs so I am probably don't have the best info on that.
ep1080 Posted August 5, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted August 5, 2012 thanks for all the input. If anyone has any suggestion , please keep it coming. By the way, is there any restaurant around the cruise terminal that you would recommend for a family lunch ( don't need anything fancy, just someplace decent and clean)
curacaoqueen Posted August 5, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2012 We prefer Blackbeards rum cake over Tortuga, if you eat enough you can get a slight buzz. Look for hot sauces and caymanite jewelery.
