?'s Arranging a Slot Pull

Our roll call group is planning a slot pull. The group has grown quite large and we were wondering if there is anyway to arrange a time & day with Royal ahead of time?

Should we contact the casino manager or cruise director? We are sailing on the Explorer 9/9 , does anyone know the names of these individuals and email addresses?

Thanks for the help.:)

Just a heads up if you get the casino manager involved they usually donate a couple of small gifts which is nice. The downside for me is they might turn it into a regular tournament for your group. In other words there will be groups sitting at a few machines banging their hand on the button as fast as they can for a very long 5 minutes.

To me this is not as much fun. I love to watch each individual take their turn while we all root for them and hoot and holler when they do hit something.

This is just my experience from many roll call slot pulls I have been in. Different ships, different casino manager, different styles.

It will be fun for your group no matter what.:D

We've done lots of slot pulls for our CC roll calls and have never involved or contacted anyone ahead of time. We just set a time to meet in the casino and get started.

So it's fine to do it on your own unless you really want to get ship staff involved. We just prefer to do it on our own.

I have organized many of these, and this is my experience and thoughts.

* Ask on the roll call who is interested to get an idea, but don't worry about keeping track or making lists ahead of time. Let it be known folks can show up at the last minute (as long as it is before the first pull).

* Tentatively schedule for about 11 am on the second sea day and confirm at the Meet and Mingle. Takes about an hour and a quarter from start to finish for about 30-35 people.

* See the casino manager before the Meet and Mingle. They will try to steer you to a wheel of fortune machine, but I prefer to pick my own based on the main criteria being visibility for others to watch the action. You pick the machine-there always seems to be a few who have a favorite or lucky machine, but there can only be one boss and there is no room for a committee ;). Ask for some shirts or other prizes.

* I have tried both dollar and quarter machines, and prefer the quarter as everyone gets more pulls and there is more hooping and cheering. I set it up so that everyone pays $15 and gets 20 pulls on a 3 coin machine. Insist that they bring $15-not a $20 bill.

* I get there about 20 minutes ahead of time and sign people up as they get there. They play in that order and each person puts in their own money. . I check them off on the list when they take their turn. I get a volunteer to count the pulls. I also keep track of how many total points each person gets (others will help and it is not hard) and prizes at the end are awarded on that basis.

* If the total points exceeds 1000, the machine may not take anymore money, and they simply put their $15 in the tray.

* I have a lot of ones and fives ahead of time for the payout when done.

* after the last person, it may be helpful for you personally to play a little more to the total to an even number based on how many players. That will make more sense when you do it.

* The whole idea is to have fun and make friends-don't take it too seriously.

Hope you have as much fun as I do-let me know if you want any other input.

I have a question. How do you do the "payout"? Is this a community game where all participants get an equal share and the top two or three get an additional prize? Or do the top point getters get the cash prize as they do in the ship sponsored slot tournaments???

We usually decide to play until we double our money or lose it all whichever comes first. If we double it the money is divided as evenly as possible with any extra dollar or two going to the organizer. Sometimes if we have cashed out at double our money some of us decided to put the original investment ($20) in and we do it all again.

I have ran a number of slot pulls. I talk to a Casino host on the first day to arrange for prizes. Here are the rules I use. To me the most important rule is that I never touch the money until we cash out. I also announce how much each person will recieve BEFORE I hit the cash out button. Take a calculator with you.

We are going to have the slot pull IMMEDIATELY after the M&M.

Cost is $15.00 per person. I do not handle the money during the pull. Each person will feed their own money into the machine.

We usually use a $1.00 machine (Wheel of Fortune is the preferred machine) that has a max bet of $3.00 so everyone gets 5 pulls for their $15.00.

I have created a form to track and record the outcome of every pull. I will also total up each persons turn. I will write your name down when you arrive.

After each person has had their 3 pulls we will cash out the machine. Only paper money or casino coins bills will be paid out, no change. Any extra money will be taken as extra pulls starting with the biggest winner and going down the list until we get to the amount that can be equally shared by the group.

I am going to try and get prizes from the ship. The prizes will be handed out in the following manner.

Prizes are based on the initial 5 pulls only. Highest total amounts won. If there is a tie then the person who got the most on any 1 spin will win. If there is still a tie then whoever won the highest amount on the earliest spin will win. If there is still a tie then we flip a coin. We will continue to hand out the prizes until there are none left

Everyone gets the same share. I simply divide the total by the number of participants. That's why I said if there is a weird number that is not easily divisible, I run off those points (or win enough) to make it an even number. The high scorers get the hats, shirts, or other prizes.

I have organized one for our upcoming cruise. Here are our rules. I have done this a few times and it is ALWAYS good to have rules set so everyone knows going in what is going to happen and what is NOT going to happen. Making up rules while at the machines kinda suck and unfortunately I have been to a few of those pulls.

Slot Pull Rules

Held Monday right after Meet & Mingle!!

(Meet & Mingle is usually day 2 approx 10:45, once date & time are announced I will change it here)

Feel free to ask questions if you are unsure of any of the rules.

1. Entry fees must be made in cash to CruisinDawn prior to the first pull. PLEASE sign up on the Activities page (Link will not work for you on this page, it's out private page listing who is on the cruise and who signed up for what activities) before the cruise if your interested so I can add your name to the list. That way I am not having to wing it the day of the pull. I would much rather just mark paid or scratch the name off the list if payment isn’t made. Note: You do not have to attend Meet & Mingle to be an entrant but it would be a great place to give me your entrance fee.

2. Cruisindawn is in Cabin 6320. Feel free to knock anytime except when the do not disturb sign is out.

3. The entrance fee is $20 per person. ($18 goes into the machine and $2 will be put into a prize pot) This gives everyone two possible ways to win money.

4. We will use one of the Wheel of Fortune slot machines with a max pull of $3.

5. All slot money ($18 x # of entrants) will be put into the machine before the first pull.

6. The prize pot money ($2 x # of entrants) will be awarded to the person who gets the largest amount on a single pull / spin on the Wheel of Fortune. The pot will be split if there are multiple high pulls between those winning with the same exact amount in a single pull / spin of the Wheel of Fortune. If a wheel & prize are awarded on the same pull they will be added together. So if you get a cherry ($1) and a wheel and the wheel spin produces $20 you will have a score of $21 for a chance at the highest pull for the prize pot.

7. Everyone will get 6 pulls betting the maximum bet on the machine ($3.00).

8. Participation will be in order of CruisinDawn’s list. Prior to the cruise I will put the names in a hat and make the list in the order pulled. Late entrants will be put in random blank spots on the list, not just added to the bottom. If you are "not" there when it's your turn, you will be moved to a random spot on the list. If you or a representative does not show up by the end of the pull your entrant money is forfeited and will become part of the slot money pot. It will not be pulled by the team.

9. You may designate a partner to pull for you if you wish. But understand that the person you designate to pull for you will collect any winnings if you are not there to do so.

10. Once the first pull is taken, no one else can join in and the game is closed. Once the last person has taken their turn, the slot pull is over!

11. CruisinDawn will check names off the list and they will record the amount of all of the pulls only if it exceeds the highest pull made so far. Feel free to check the list before you pull if you want to know what number you have to hit to get the prize pot money.

12. The winnings left in the machine when the game is over will be distributed equally between all entrants, Please Note: Winnings will be rounded down to the nearest dollar. Giving everyone 38 cents is a pain!

13. The leftover change will be donated to Walk for Wishes.

14. We will meet in Bolero’s at the conclusion of play to distribute the winnings and award the money for the single largest pull. This so that we don't clog up the casino.

Remember, this is a fun event to maybe gain a few dollars and enjoy the company of others in your group. This event is more about the fun and IF we win that just adds to the fun. Honestly chances are you will only gain back a small amount of your original investment. Like the lottery winning big is rare.

Get ready to Yell ….......Wheel of Fortune!!!!!

Wow-you guys make it a little complicated!

We just announce when to meet in the casino, everyone puts their own money into the machine, usually $20 per person, we select a machine, usually $1 machine with a $2 max bet, we form a line and every spins, then goes to the back of the line to wait their next turn. Cheering each other on of course. Play until we double it or lose it.

I guess I prefer things simple:D. Have done it at least 10 times with this method and never had a problem.

It is a bit of CYA but I have seen people come unglued over keychains. I always assume we will have at least one "problem" player and have made the rules to cover all situations.

I get it that you are covering yourself but still I would never be in charge of a slot pull with all of those rules and instructions. People get their panties in a wad over something, well too bad. I think the more rules you have the more people might find to complain about.

It's supposed to be fun and pain free. Guess I've been lucky with all of my CC roll call groups. Not one person has ever complained or been unhappy. In fact we have so much fun that we usually do two slot pulls-one on the way down to the islands and one on the way back.

Happy cruising!

Just one question... How many times have you doubled it?

I also wonder how well any group has done!

Last year on the Explorer, we played max bet each player and took the winnings (less than what we put in) and played it all on the roulette wheel (black or red only) and doubled it, then we played it again on the roulette wheel (not quite the whole amount that time), and then once more... I believe our choices was BLACK, BLACK, and then RED. WIN, WIN, and WIN! The excitment was contagious! And we walked out winners... It was a lot of fun!

Our last 2 times we've done OK. On our Serenade we doubled. On the Navigator we made about 1/2 over what we put in. It's alot of fun but I don't do complicated either. We also have each person put their own money in. I write names as each person plays. At the end we cash out or go again, but it's up to everyone that's participating. We're doing $15 per person, 5 spins on the Max/Dollar machine. We usually do wheel of fortune as well only because of the bonus spins.

I have organized three slot pulls, the last one was on a TA on the Brilliance. I approached the Casino hostess and she was already aware of our plans for a slot pull (from reading CC). She suggested we have it at 11:00 am on a sea day so it did not interfere with the casino's slot tournaments. She was not able to hold machines etc for us. She did give us come comps and we had a draw to make it fair for everyone. I am putting together one for my next TA. I got some great feedback and felt as though everyone had a good time.

IF you have any questions please ask.
