maxout Posted August 21, 2012 #51 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Wouldn't it be nice if at least some of the crew got a treat as well. :) Well said! :D

woodworker&knitter Posted August 22, 2012 #53 Share Posted August 22, 2012 The Lobsters brought on board in Bar Harbor were good. But the CrabFest put on by HAL on the Voyage of the Vikings was the best ever. Thanks Chef Joseph and Pablo.
beachbummers Posted August 22, 2012 #54 Share Posted August 22, 2012 It all has to do with the warm water temps in Maine and Canada. It caused the lobsters to molt early and when it grows its new shell it gets very hungry and finds the traps. A normal season has about 30% new shell lobster. This year it's closer to 90%. The great thing about new shell lobster is the meat is so much sweeter. The bad thing is the new shells are to delicate to ship long distances. So the low prices are only in effect locally. Currently, here in New Jersey they are $4 a pound. I've had so many this summer I'm actually looking forward to other things when we sail on the Masdam this weekend. As long as they don't serve Australian beef. Nasty stuff.
Rare Hlitner Posted August 22, 2012 #55 Share Posted August 22, 2012 It is nice to hear of a cruise where they will serve real lobster instead of those silly tails that try to masqurade as the real thing. Hank
