SnowBird Cruzer Posted August 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2012 I got a tweet a few weeks ago from Cruise Critic regarding road construction near the cruise terminal. I'll be driving down in February for a cruise. I'm curious as to how it is going now? How has it been getting around and to the terminal from the North? (I'll be coming down from Orlando the morning of the cruise. Driving South from Wisconsin a few days earlier). I can always stay optimistic and hope that kinks in the detours get worked out by the time I come, right? (No, I haven't been drinking/smoking yet this morning). Anyways, if any drivers want to post info on how it is, I'd love to hear more. Thank you all
DanJ Posted August 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2012 There's a couple projects I can think of, although I'm not sure how they are affecting cruise traffic right now. I-595 is being expanded, but I think that's mostly west of I-95. To be safe, I would get off the turnpike before 595. Also, the airport is expanding it's southern runway, which will involve a bridge over US1 north of Griffin. I'm not sure what stage this construction is at yet. toberman Posted August 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2012 Here's a little info on the construction - looks like the area around 595 and Eller Drive will be a mess. Like Dan, I would suggest getting off the interstate to the north and enter the port from 17th St. http://www.porteverglades.net/about-us/ellerdriveoverpass/
EatonDoolittle Posted August 12, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 12, 2012 595 and the Turnpike is also a big mess with all sorts of lane / ramp construction going on. Best to avoid that area as well. If coming the Turmpike, jump off sooner than 595 and go to US1 and enter that way.
royalcruz Posted August 13, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2012 If you want to avoid I595.... Turnpike south. Exit Sunrise Blvd east. I-95 south. Next exit Broward Blvd east. Right on US1 (S Federal Hwy), go through tunnel. Left on SE 17th St. Right on Eisenhower Blvd. to port entrance.
SnowBird Cruzer Posted August 13, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Thanks everyone for all the info. I sure hope others keep updating this as the months go by. I'm used to the end of road construction when the snow flies. But I doubt they slow down in FL in Dec/Jan/Feb.
SnowBird Cruzer Posted November 6, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted November 6, 2012 Thanks everyone for all the info. I sure hope others keep updating this as the months go by. I'm used to the end of road construction when the snow flies. But I doubt they slow down in FL in Dec/Jan/Feb. It's been 3 months since anyone posted. And I'm only 3 months from cruise
