My review on Norwegian Crown 5/8-5/15

My wife and I just got back from the Crown to Bermuda. I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

Embarkation: The port of Phila. went smooth and quickly. We got there at 12noon and we were on the ship(2 couples) by 1:15. We checked out our rooms then went to a nice buffet in the Yacht club.

Room: We were all on the Lido deck room 8017 (my wife and I) and 8019(the couple we went with) The rooms were spacious as far as staterooms go. I was on the Majesty of the seas and those rooms were a lot smaller. We were suppose to have an ubstructed view, but we still had a pretty good vista out our large window! Rooms were in good shape, clean. Plenty of drawer and closet space. You can't overpack, enough room for everything! Our room steward was Ellen a lovely young lady who always had a smile. Very attentive to our needs.

Food: The food in the 7 Seas (main restaraunt)was very good, a little slow at times, depending on your server and size of crowd. We had one exceptional server her name was Florentina(from Romania) Very gracious and efficient) She refered to my wife as My Lady!!

The place for breakfast in my opinion is the yacht club. A nice breakfast buffet with an omelette and waffle station.....alot faster than 7 seas. Lunches were good also....Ice cream also>

We had dinner one night in The LeBistro. This was an excellent dinner. A 15 dollar surcharge + 5 more for the twin lobster tail surf and turf......OUTSTANDING and well worth it.

If you like coffee you can get coffee, tea or milk 24/7 in yacht club......Bring a Travel mug, it comes in handy!!!!!!

Entertainment: Very entertaining shows and skits, There is always something going on. Julie V. the cruise director was all over the place, She did a great job, so did her staff!

We had some rough seas going out and coming back, enough fpr some people to get sick, however I never lost my appetite!

I dont know how the show girls and guys can dance in a rocking ship(Kudos to them!!!!!!)

I wont spend much time on Bermuda Cause it is beautifully wonderful! We golfed at Port Royal A treat for golfers and visually Beautiful. Also magnificent was the crystal Caves!

All in all we had a wonderful cruise and yes I recomend the Crown although a smaller older ship She is still a BEAUTIFUL Lady.

Casino: Small but adequate, The slot attendants could have been a little more attentive however.

Any thing I forgot I will try to respond to any questions!:D

Thanks for your review. How was the fitness center? Did you take any aerobics classes? Which lounge would you recommend for ballroom dancing?

As was our experience on the Dawn, the waitresses from Romania continue to be first rate. It never ceases to amaze us how fluent they are in English.

bEPDAY93,

I AM SAILING ON THE N. CROWN TO BERMUDA ON 5/29/05 FROM NYC. I WILL BE IN 8022. DID YOU HAVE A REFRIGERATOR IN YOUR CABIN?

WHAT TIME DID YOU GO TO DINNER AT THE 7 SEAS? MY CABIN MATE AND I LIKE TO DINE AROUND 8 ISH. WILL WE BE ABLE TO MAKE THE SECOND SHOW?

DID YOU TRY ANY OF THE NO EXTRA CHARGE SPECIALITY RESTAURANTS? IF SO, DID YOU MAKE A PRIOR RESERVATION OR JUST SHOWED UP?

ANY INFO YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED.

THANK YOU.

The fitness facility is excellent for a small ship. They do have aerobic classes I didnt participate, but heard they were good.

Make reservations especially the Le Bistro, well worth the surcharge.

The dine ashore program is good, but use it near the ship as our cab fare each way to Tom Moores Tavern was 25 dollars.

You might want to eat at seven oclock to catch the second show.

All the lounges were good!!!!

I too heard alot of negatives about the Crown, But my expectations were far exceeded!!!

The best lounge for ballroom dancing is the Stardust where they have the shows. They have a live band in the early evening around 6 oclock for your dancing pleasure.

Glad to hear that you had a good time. Were there regular shows every night, including the nights in port?

Also, were there many shaded spots around the pool?

Thanks for any info.

Dont know if you know this answer. Do they sell cartons of cigarettes to take back to your cabin? I just got off Princess and they dont sell cartons for use onboard. I took NCL 2 years ago and didn't have a problem buying cartons for immediate use, but Im not sure if this has changed with all cruise lines or if this was a Princess line only policy?

I bought 2 cartons and was able to light up immediately.

You can only buy the cigarettes when you are out at sea. 1 carton is 24 dollars, but second carton is only 20 dollars!!!!

Heres another question. Did you buy your excursions thru them or did you do it on your own? I remember the taxi's being very expensive last year? We booked two thru them, but I wanted to get a bus pass like I did three years ago..But thinking back I bought it in Hamilton and thats not our first stop.

Hi, I am sailing on the Crown from NY on Aug. 21st. Very relieved to hear about your positive experience although somewhat concerned about rough seas, particuarly since we'll be going in the peak of Hurricane Season and it is a significantly smaller ship than any my fiancee and I have ever sailed on.

You can't fight mother nature. I took dramamine an hour before we set sailed. Then again just before bed. Although there was some sea sick people on board if you prepare properly you will do just fine. Some people actually were a bit tipsy from drinking and they blamed the waves. To much alcohol will make you sick too!!!!!

What can you tell me about the formal night? When we sailed the Sun for Easter we had decided ahead of time not to participate so we did not pack formal attire. We ate in a specialty restaurant that evening so have no idea how it worked. My question is do the people in formal attire attend the same restaurant as those is casual attire? Since it is just my husband and I this cruise we were going to partake in the formal night. However, if one person is in a dress and a suit and someone else is in casual clothes right next to you I don't see the point. Also you mentioned the casino, was curious about the slot machines I heard they only had 10, is that accurate? Seems so few. Aslo having never been to Bermuda do you dock at all ports or is it tendering? On the Sun due to weather and the the docks being so full we tendered to every port except for one. Thanks so much for any insight you can contribute!

Since there is only one main restaraunton the Crown a shirt and tie and sport coat is okay or even nice casual clothes.

There are plenty of slot machines from 5cent to5 dollar slots. I never had a problem finding a machine, except when the slots first open when they open at sea!

You will dock at every port and come and go as you please. I decided to take a walk at 5 a.m. Easy on easy off!!!!!!!

hi what made you pick this particular ship for your cruise?

There were a couple reasons.

1) It left out of the Port of Philadelphia...45 minutes away

2)No flying!

3) I particularly like a smaller ship....more intimate.

4) It is one of a few ships that stop at all 3 ports in Bermuda.:)

I fully agree. I LOVE Bermuda, and this ship, though small, has the perfect itinerary. You can come and go as you please and are not rushed at any point. I will miss my balcony, but being in Bermuda for 4 days makes up for that :D

Hi.. I know that the crown travels from St George to Hamilton at 7 in the morning... But if I happen to be our for a bike ride real early do I have to concern myself with "Having" to be on board when the shiip sails... or

can I simply "catch up" with her in Hamilton?

thanks in advance..

Ken Fallon:) :)

are free cold drinks such as lemonade or ice tea available 24 hours? And because this is an older ship, are there no balconies?

Laura

You can get Ice Tea,ice water, milk, tea and coffee 24/7 in the yacht club buffet. Bring a travel mug or 2 and you will always have beverages. They have several rooms with balconies.

There are only 16 CABINS with balconies, and they are in AA and AB categories.

So these rooms are quite expensive,I would imagine? Do the ocean views have big windows or portholes? As you can tell, I've never gone on NCL but am trying to talk my husband into it. Unfortunity,he has had people tell him that the food is not very good, which is making him say no to NCL. But I keep trying because some ships leave from NYC which I like. We have sailed on Carnival twice from NYC and loved it!
