Lkcossmfr Posted August 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Booked our air through HAL arriving in Amsterdam 2 days before our cruise. Was just wondering if HAL will provide transfer to our non-HAL hotel?

No, you'll be on your own for that. But a taxi will e cheaper than the HAL transfer anyway. Which hotel?
Rare Copper10-8 Posted August 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Nope, like Dave said, you're on your own with that one! Plenty of cabs available outside the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Schiphol has its own Nederlandse Spoorwegen train station underneath the Arrivals Hall with connects to public transporation at Amsterdam Centraal (tram, metro, bus). Public transportation is good in NL but it's not always a day at the beach if you're lugging lots of bags. I'd grab a cab. Enjoy Amsterdam, a great city!:)
Traveling Library Posted August 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Depending on where your hotel is take the train to Central Station and then take taxi to your hotel. It can be a lot less expensive then a taxi directly from Schiphol. Train is easy to find and ride (though if you have a lot of luggage maybe not easy to ride). Ine Posted August 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2012 Depending which hotel you are staying in and its location, this shuttlebus might be a good option too. http://www.airporthotelshuttle.nl/site/home.asp
eandj Posted August 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2012 We took the train to Central Station from the airport. Was easy and inexpensive. You will be with many other tourists. We were close enough to walk to our hotel from there.
Lkcossmfr Posted August 22, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted August 22, 2012 I'm at the Barbizon Palace It sez it's close to Central Station I don't know if we'll be able to negotiate the train with our luggage though

Take a cab from Schiphol; then use the train/tram/metro once you get to your hotel to explore the city/country without having to worry about luggage
dakrewser Posted August 22, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2012 The Barbizon Palace is less than a 10 minute walk from the station - but if you do that take a taxi anyway as you need to cross many tram lines. You're also very close to the port (maybe 10 minutes by taxi). Getting to the train station at Schipol is easy but it all depends on how easily you can schlep the bags. the2ofus Posted August 22, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2012 European trains are wonderful, but most Americans are not familiar with train travel. Best to learn when you are not encumbered by luggage. Cab to hotel, then set out to explore.

Yaya&Papu Posted August 23, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 23, 2012 About 2 years ago we did a HAL cruise from Rotterdam, but we went a couple of days early and stayed at the Barbizon Palace. We took the shuttle bus from Schiphol with luggage. If you can wheel/roll/carry your own luggage to the shuttle stop right outside the airport, it is very easy to take the shuttle and a lot cheaper too!! There are several hotels on their route and depending where people are being dropped off, it did not take very long. And one of their stops IS the Barbizon. You buy your ticket from the shuttle bus driver and he loads your luggage. It is almost as easy as getting to the taxi queue, but not as easy as if you have a driver meeting you at the arrivals hall who will handle your luggage.:)
