I called Club Royal yesterday to redeem my whopping $5/day casino cash for my 12/7/13 Oasis cruise. The gentleman on the phone invited me to play in the Poker Tournament... for only a $1,000 entry fee!

Wow Lou I'm not surprised.

 

If there are 300 entrants and if the prize pool is $100.000 then the payout for you would be terrible and excellent for the house. I use the word 'if' twice as I'm basing that in what I read for last years. $500 would seem far more reasonable.

So do we have to call in advance for the 'casino cash'? Interestingly, I got one for $5 per day and my wife got one for $15 per day!

I sent another e-mail to Club Royale in hopes of getting some firm information about the tournament. Interested so that we can plan for speciality restaurants, shows, and other activities unrelated to poker!!

The rev any idea on the prize structure?

I won on the LOS Thanksgiving Cruise. Prize is Oasis for Dec 6, 2014 sailing. They gave cruises to first and second place.

No, it seems like either they are keeping complete info under wraps for some reason, or they just don't know.:confused:

First RC cruise is in Jan on Freedom.... enjoy poker, but on other cruises the rake was not only high - it was obscene. I think on NCL the rake for the $100 tourney was 50%! - and the structure was terrible. Just a bingo game. Was actually funny watching all the people that thought they "knew" poker sign up to play. Any real player wouldn't go near it at that rake.

 

On NCL the 1/2 cash game had a rake of 10% to $25/hand. Min $2 even if no flop. If everyone folded to the blinds, they couldn't chop, as the house would still take their $2. Wouldn't even lower the rake if there were 5 or fewer players.

 

On Carnival Miracle last year it was completely electronic. No dealer. Can't remember the max rake. But it played more like an online play money table. Was quite common for 4-5 people to see the river each hand. BINGO!

I played on NCL a couple of times and the rake was around 25% from memory. Cash game was as you said 10% up to $25. The tourney rake is high and yes you're right that proper poker players wouldn't play it, but remember, you're on holiday and many things may be more expensive on a ship. It's a bit of fun.

 

On Royal Caribbean (and this is from memory and chatting to the casino host so it might be slightly wrong), the tourney was $100 buy in and you could re buy for $50 in the first half half, plus the same for an add on. They played every sea day and the first two got through to the final day. If there was $3,300 in takings they offered a cruise for two, any less then it's cash prizes. On our one there was a cruise for 1st, 2nd was $900 and 3rd $450. I've read on some that there's been enough $ taken for two or three cruise wins. I have a feeling that RC's rake is around 25% too.

 

Loads did re buys and add ins in the game I played and that's where I think the money really climbs. That's where I also think, it's a really bad bet. I just did the $100 for a bit of fun at sea and ended up being very lucky.

 

One thing I would say - the games are very quick as the blinds rise quickly. The final is over in a hour or so and many don't like that as it's a bit of 'let's go all in' on nearly every hand once you're down to the last 4 or 5 players. People didn't like it in truth. I guess RC have had their rake and want it over with ASAP to get people on the tables :o

DH played on the Allure in 2011. He came in 28th I think and won about $400.;)

Agree 100%... the preliminary tournaments are crazy because of the very short levels and outrageous blind structure. At least in this event in a few days the rounds are 30 minutes and the blinds start at 25/50.

 

Uhhh, I didn't even realize they had cash games on RCL. Was it just on the Oasis size ships?:confused:
