J&KCruiser Posted August 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2012 We are in Venice for cruise Oct 26th and group of 12-18 interested in gathering night before. Interested in location that offers small group arrangements with some up-lifting environment (nothing formal) and affordable with adult beverages. Would hope for some pizza, pasta, sandwich... type of menu that does not have to cost 25+ Euro per person and reasonable beverage fees. Also hear some places charge extra for seats/utensils. What’s that about? Thanks for any assistance John
euro cruiser Posted August 26, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2012 Many restaurants (perhaps most, I haven't paid that much attention) charge what amounts to a cover charge, called "il coperto" or sometimes "pane e coperto", of between 1 - 3 Euros per person. As to your question about paying for a seat, you do pay more in a bar (bars in Italy are not the same as in the States, they sell coffee and some food) if you sit down. You'll notice that most Italians drink their coffee standing at the bar, not seated. I don't have a restaurant to offer - we had a hard time finding a place that could seat our group of 15, restaurants in Venice tend to be pretty small. rebeccalouiseagain Posted August 26, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2012 This place is nice. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It will easily accommodate a group of 20 people. You would have to make a reservation. It is near Piazzale Roma and would be fairly easy to find. I dined there twice and the food is typical Italian food that Americans are used to. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187870-d1574601-Reviews-Al_Bacco_Felice-Venice_Veneto.html

John Below is a picture on one super scenic location where we dined and enjoyed in 1999 and last June. So super scenic!! Check out their menu on their website. You can e-mail them for a reservation. Since Venice is one of your key stops, you might look at this earlier posting that I did on the Italy board that shows many options and visual potentials for this city that is so great for "walking around", personally sampling the great history and architecture. Wonderful food and spectacular setting. It is located at Ponte delle Ostreghe 2347. It is west of San Marco Square and south of La Fenice Opera House.
