sugarsmacks Posted August 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2012 It has been 3 or 4 years since I last visit the island. The reviews lately have not been that good. I know there are broken shells everywhere on the island, but there were a lot of shells that had hermit crabs in them; even the little shells. The kids had so much fun picking them up. Has anybody seen the crabs or did they die off.
Rare mitsugirly Posted August 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2012 This is the first that I've read about any crabs (any trust me, I've read all the reviews I could on this place lately because I've been researching for a place to go when we go back to Belize). I'm interested in knowing more about these hermit crabs now too. :)
sugarsmacks Posted August 29, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted August 29, 2012 Our group had such a blast on the island. We saw starfish and a few lobsters in the water, but the highlight was picking up shells and having hermit crabs come out of them. We were so surprised to see them. A lot of people are viewing this, but not posting anything. I hope somebody that has been there recently can answer or if somebody is going soon can look for them. There are a lot of shells on the island, but not all of them are broken. The crabs were in the really small shells all around the trees and shore line by the pier. I did not see many by the swimming area.
CENTEX CRUISER Posted August 29, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2012 You do need shoes for shells in the water at Bannister..We really enjoyed it though..Nice boat ride also.
sugarsmacks Posted September 18, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted September 18, 2012 If anyone is going to Bannister soon can you please post if you see any hermit crabs. They are not by the beach. They are on the side of the island where the tour boats dock. We are going back to Belize in January and are thinking of going back to Bannister or just take an island city tour. Thanks for your help.
