Bruin Steve Posted September 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2012 We're arriving 5:40 pm to Hobby and have a limo reserved for the drive to Galveston...staying at the Hilton before boarding the Mariner of the Seas (December 16 cruise)...4 of us (taking the daughters)... I'm trying to figure out where to eat...since we'll be at the Hilton without a car, I was figuring "close walking distance"... Not looking for anything expensive...I figure it may be a little late by the time we get in to Hobby, retrieve our luggage, get down to Galveston and check in to the hotel...and we'll probably be dressed in the same clothes we've traveled in (like I'm in cargo shorts and a T-shirt), so it needs to be very casual... My first instinct is "Tortuga"...any good? Or are there other places nearby we should be considering? Thanks...

Barsnikel Posted September 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 1, 2012 The IHOP is right next door. there is also a strip shopping center next to IHOP that has some places. and if I recall, the Rainforest is close by as well Personally, we like Gaidos, but that's not necessarily within walking distance (depending upon your definition).. Mara Suung Posted September 6, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 6, 2012 Thanks for the info. We will be at the Hilton, but not at the same time. Slightly off topic, but do any locals have suggestions for quick tours? Trolley? I am interested in architecture and scandals!
Galveston Cruiser Posted September 6, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2012 Check out galvestonhistory.org The Galveston Historical Foundation has tours of the island as well as the Bishop's Palace, Texas Seaport Museum and bay tours on the Seagull II. Unfortunately our tall ship Elissa will still be in drydock. Also look up Texas Ghost Tours for their evening walking tours.
