Travel insurance

Recommended Posts

In the small print in the Thomson brochure, it says ordinary European travel insurance is no good for cruises. Can someone advise please. We are doing an Eastern Med cruise.

Thank you.

Hi Jo, we take our EHIC card with us and if on a European cruise, including Eastern Med / Aegean we use the "free" insurance we have with our bank account as it does not exclude cruise holidays. Apparently some do.

Otherwise if outside Europe we get travel insurance.

Cymro1953, yes, we will be taking our EHIC cards anyway but as we have to declare pre-existing medical conditions, I was wondering how others did theirs? I went on to a couple of well known web sites. The difference between just putting in Europe only and Europe and East Med Cruise was about £50. We are doing a stay and cruise.

Hi Jo,

On our Princess cruise last year we did both Aegean to Turkey and up to Italy and i had to take the bank's travel insurance document into the T.A. to see if it covered what was needed. Both Princess and Thomas Cook were happy with it as it id say in the areas covered Europe and countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

The Manor Insurance agency is one that in the past has been quoted on here as providing good cover including pre existing medical conditions manorinsurance .co.uk

We have not used them ourselves but many on here have.

Here's a thread from some time ago when insurance was covered at some lengths including post with fellow cruisers suggestions of companies they have found good.

There's quite a bit of it but hopefully it will help you to sort out what you need, and also someone to cover you.

But you definitely need a policy which:

- covers 'any kind of travel' or quotes cruises specifically

- covers all the countries you are travelling to

- and will cover any pre-existing conditions (you must notify them and ensure you have it in writing that they have covered you for it)

Just check that you haven't already got cover with a bank/M&S card or similar - but be aware that although they may even offer Worldwide Annual cover they often have limited pre-existing conditions cover and aren't prepared to extend this even by paying a supplement.

And you know about the EHIC cards but it's important thet you have them with you when you go on shore - if the worst happens you need to present it at the time of needing treatment.

Good luck with the search!

Must check that my natwest advantage gold account travel insurance does not exclude cruises. Even although I asked!.
