Marbella, Fires in Spain....

I felt so awful the other day to hear there were bad fires in the Marbella area and hope that beautiful area was spared.

Has anyone been there this week or have reliable news about what happened to Marbella and Puerto Banus?

The fires were in the hills at the back of Marbella/Puerto Banus. My friends are on holiday in the area now, so no problems.

Forest fires are a common occurence in Spain during the summer months. Although this summer has been particularly hot throughout southern Europe.

In Spain we have had the hottest August since 1961.

When the countryside is dry and the weather is hot there is always a risk of fire

However, in this case, the authorities believe it was arson. I cannot believe that anyone could be so wicked as to start a fire intentionally.

Luckily we are not near this area but a massive area inland in the south was affected.

Over 4000 people were evacuated and hundreds of people have lost their homes

The areas of Malaga, Marbella and Puerto Banus were not damaged
