For those who have sailed on the STAR recently....

Hi,

The ship and its crew were great. Bermuda is soooo beautiful.

All the shows were good but Elements was very good.

They have a few martini tastings that are supposed to be good. I didn't attend because i was drinking grey goose martinis in the casino with my free drink card from CAS.

We went to 4 specialty restaurants and all were great.

Cagneys

LeBistro

Moderno

Ginza

Lobster Hut in Hamilton very good.

We did tour excursion of entire island with stops at crystal caves, aqaurium and zoo. Very surprised how much we enjoyed aquarium and zoo. Tour ends in Hamilton and you can stay there if you want and take ferry back to ship.

Cagneys was my favorite for dinner. We tried all but one specialty place.

Loved the martini tastings - there were 3 different tastings with totally different martinis each time. Yum! Wish I could have made it to the mojito and margaritta tastings, or the wine tasting ...

The last show was really good. Elements. It will be very crowded. Arrive early. Do not be fooled by all the empty seats at the other shows or you will be standing.

The only ship excursion we did was the famous homes and hideaways tour. We really enjoyed it but I could also see that some people would not. Taxi drivers make excellent tour guides. The are super friendly and knowlegable and will personalize the tour just for you for $40 per hour for up to 4 people. Well worth it to not have to wait for anyone else or stay too long at one store etc...

Get a few bags of fresh popped popcorn from the Red Lion Pub before going to you cabin to wind down and watch a movie. I read about it here on CC and my husband was quite amused when I told him we were going to get popcorn and I knew just where to find it. Thanks all!

I agree with Donna on the martini tastings (Donna, I was at 2 of them - how did I miss you?). They were so tasty and the bartender was awesome! I was there by myself since i was just traveling with my two kids but it was fun to chat with new friends!

Red Lion Pub was fun to hang out in. We did karaoke and trivia there a bunch of times.

The daily newsletter they give you is so informative, you can just go through it and highlight anything of interest and you will probably have a hard time fitting it all in.

We took in the Shark Bait show and the 2nd City show - both were pretty good but I heard Elements was excellent and I was sorry we missed it.

You can check out my full review of our cruise at the link below in my signature.

Hope you have lots of fun! We sure did! :)

What can you see on the TV's?

You can't see much on Norwegian Star TV's [and this in a mini-suite]: Very-small screen old TV ... not best picture quality (e.g., shaky/fuzzy) ... with -- except for ship channels -- basically three news channels, one sport channel, and a few movie channels playing usually-vintage films.

If you are a foodie and willing to spend $75 pp for a spectacular evening of food, wine and conversation, look into joining the Chef's Table. It will probably be on Thursday evening. You also get a galley tour by the head chef. It's worth every penny.

I was in a suite- the tv was actually nice and had a dvd player. They did not have many channels on the tv. There was the E! Channel, Fox news, cnn, a few ship chanels and 2 movie channels. One movie channel was playing old movies but the other seemed to be newer movies. I noticed that The Hunger Games was on. I was surprised that they did not have even one kids channel. I don't have kids so it didn't matter to me but I think they should at least have one for the kids.

Did you have access to a DVD library of movies? If so, was there a charge or was it complimentary for suite guests?

7 days on the Star, May, 2004 (I think): Alaska cruise--terrific

12 days on the Star, April, 2012: Tampa to NY, Loved the ship, crew & staff!! It was a great cruise and the food had improved too! We enjoyed the Ital. restaurant but thought Le Bistro was only so-so.

14 days coming up Oct 21, 2012: NY to New Orleans, Anticipate another wonderful cruise.

Hope you also enjoy this ship!

Anna
